I think the barge is best at night friday or saturday used to be very busy live bands etc nice beer too.
On saturday we went over to a hotel near the new Osaka international airport to say goodbye to a homestay 18yr old young lady we had staying with us ,she was from Nepal, last year we had an Italian lady and the year before it was a girl from Vladivostock.
Hope you find something to do for the holidays, I did hear that young ladys in Tokyo like to prebook motel rooms at xmas then go looking for a partner so you could get lucky that way and KFC is always very busy xmas time its a traditional thing among japanese people .

Sounds apocryphal to me!
One of my Japanese co-workers jokingly told someone the other day 'He is learning Japanese to get a Japanese girlfriend.'
Obviously I said this wasn't true, but that I was open to offers in that department.
'If you get Japanese girlfriend,' said my co-worker, 'it will be...'
'...because my Japanese has really improved?' I suggested.
'It will be miracle,' she said with a kind smile.
Can't really argue with that...

Sounds like she may be interested in you but i'm sure company policy prevents it

If your talking to me FF then the simple answer is this is where craft or mingae is respected and encouraged and that's what I have always been into , there was too much red tape in England when trying to start a new business .

Modern? not sure about that, depends how you mean... do you mean technologically (definitely), culturally (not sure, bit of a mixed bag), morally (a mixed bag once again)? There seems to be a bit of a siege mentality with respect to the rest of the world (the self-other boundaries seem very definite here, more so than in the UK) which is a little surprising in 2006 until you remember Japan was effectively cut off from the rest of the world for 250 years...
Hello Jar Jar, how's it going? Thought you didn't like Doctor Who sites.
The Post team and I have discussed me sticking my impressions down on... er... sticking my impressions down, but not in any definite way (so far).
