About me
Although I'm as English as the proverbial White Cliffs of my birhtplace, for the last 15 years I have been living in the place whence you will be brought the equally proverbial tulips. If you have to live in a city it's a good one to choose, but I got to the point a couple of years ago where I decided I didn't have to, and since then I've been plotting my escape back to the hills.
What's stopping me? After all I've spent my life being the sort of impulsive fool who says "Right! That's it - I'm off". Well, it's a rather agreeable 16 year old (as 16 year-olds go you understand), who has not yet reached the same conclusion as I have, and who baulks at the idea of exchanging the freedom and delights of an adolescence in Amsterdam for the constriction and - well frankly what he sees as - boredom of a life in the rural north of England. No matter. The novelty of taking my time over a move and doing things gradually and in an organised manner must needs compensate for the terrible frustration of the thwarted bolter, and I'll do my best to enjoy my last couple of years in one of Europe's most idiosincratic capitals. There are worse places to be an exile.......

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
