I've just finished updating my website, fixing graphics and links that have been broken for ages. It's been fun, learning html and doing it properly instead of using MS-Word. I've put the link on my front page (see above).

Sometimes I wonder why I bother with all the otherkin stuff on the 'net. For the past 48 hours I've been getting copies of someone else's hate-mail (on the grounds that I am/was co-moderator of a mailing list) and quite frankly I'm sick of it. It's rather sad really. *sighs*

Isn't it strange how best intentions can be thrown into disarray by unexpected events? You know, the sort that come and hit you smack between the eyes. I had planned to spend the entire day at my studio working on my commission for Everway, but yesterday, when cleaning out my pet rats' cage, I noticed that one of them had a lump on her abdomen. So today, instead of going to the studio, I had to go to the vet. With both rats, incidentally, as the other is looking much the worse for her age too.
The prognosis for Alice is not good. It's a mammary tumour, which in rats is always violently malignant. By the time the lump is visible, the cancer will already be well-established. Technically an operation is possible but in practicality, it would only re-occur. The vet advised that it would be less stressful to leave her be, and euthanase her if she shows signs of pain or discomfort. He estimated about a month.
Mary is just old, like a frail little old lady, who's losing her hair and losing weight. She looks just like her sister did before she died, despite the vets' best efforts to treat her. It might seem strange going to such efforts just for a rat, but it's easy to get very attached to them.

I got a weird telephone call today. Some guy left a message in my voicemail, with this long drawn-out story about how he'd been burgled and one of the things stolen was a nude portrait of himself. The punchline was, he wanted to know if I would go round to his house and do a nude portrait of him to replace it. Ack. I've met some freaks in my life but that's a first. Even if I had the time (I'm snowed under with commissions until the end of April) I am not stupid enough to go to some strangers house and expect him to simply sit there while I draw him in the buff. I'm sure he would be expecting payment "in kind" rather than in cash. Sheesh.

Yay! I wrote an article the other day and it's now going through the editorial process. I don't know how long it takes, but I'm looking forward to getting in the Edited Guide! Hmmm... I wonder what the editorial process means. Do they actually edit it, as in, change what I wrote, or cut bits out? I hope not.
