Argh! I just read this entire thread and while the beginning was comprehendable and definitely very interesting, the end's just been completely baffling...

Yep, I was. 
I have to get up early enough for my son to have time to get ready for work, but I don't need as much. To kill a bit of time I lurk at h2g2. I only log in if I see something particularly interesting.
