Betcha can't guess what's in the box?
Hmm. I find your page rather bitter.
What I'm trying to say is, isn't the concept 'pet peeve of the week' a little off? Isn't a pet peeve, by definition, your PET peeve? Yeah.

Only "rather" bitter? Yep. Maybe "disappointed" is a better word. I think there are a lot of ways that H2G2 isn't living up to its potential, which is a pity. Some of this I blame on the staff not being prepared for the rapid growth, some on the technological and social design turning it into just another chat BBS. Oh well. Fortunately they make free space available even for the bitter.

"Mountain gorillas are almost the closest relatives we have"
says Ioreth.
I read through your whole list of complaints and agreed with them - but theoretically, don't you think it might be worthwhile to take a slightly more positive attitude, prehaps focusing on the many good facets of H2G2? Just a hypothetical situation here... I know I enjoy being bitter immensely. But whatever.

Been there, done that. After months of trying to make a positive difference, I just don't spend much time here any more. Perhaps things will speed up, the editorial staff will become more responsive, and I'll be a helpful friendly researcher once again. Then again, given that it's spring, perhaps I'll just start spending time outdoors instead.

Well, thanks for missing me. It's nice to be missed. I'm still around the Internet, just not much around here.
DSL = digital subscriber line, one of the types of high-speed internet connection available in the USA, speeds of 256K and up.

Oh the police, let me tell you,
I was in Washington DC for a giant protest this weekend, and many of my friends were there too. That Saturday they were engaging in peaceful and (they thought anyway) legal protest. But then they got arrested and held without food/bathrooms for ten hours. Hoo boy.

I put up a journal about it on my page...

hey have a look at this - mustapha directed me to it:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/uk/newsid_734000/734667.stm
similar happenings here too, especially at apec, in relation to the free tibetan protesters - the police tend to get more physical with the rest of us who don't attract as many tv cameras
