So, ... under 3 hours to a new year for you, 8 for me, having made two turkey pot pies from scratch and cleared 5" of snow ... I('m done for the year. Anything left for you?

Nah, I'm not partying, I've got one of the music channels on and I'm trying to get another story down

The last 2 years at our Air Force association were a bust. And with milady working today (another half hour yet) we figured nawww. Quiet and simple.

I've never really bothered going out New Year, sometimes a friend had a party we'd go to but they were usually sedate affairs, no probably another New Year in with Jools Holland on the telly

In the smallest communities, we had a grand time rotating the 'hosting' with friends over a few years. You get 4 or 5 couples that simply enjoy each other's company, ... It's a light and fun way to meet the year without even noticing that the evening has gone by. A simply house party, no need for music or copious measures of booze.

Sounds like a good idea

The new year was met with a bit of TV specials and a drop of wine ...

I watched the local fireworks

I don't think this town does New Year's fireworks. The fresh snow and winds would play hell with setting them up.

I can see that being a problem and no-one fancies staying up late in freezing weather to see them

When it comes to a good pyrotechnic display, some folks WILL go to extremes ... The bigger cities do a show, but then, they have the budgets I suppose.

There's always a good one at the harbour

Our harbour is pretty tiny compared to yours ... Small boats and wealthy-folks cruisers is the best it can handle.

I bet fireworks over it look good

If it's a clear night, it IS very pretty. The reflections on the calm waters nearly double the effect.

We've always had a good display, even tho Portsmouth is a Navy and Commercial port it's not actually THAT big

Our town is the 'mouth' of the Trent-Severn Waterway, ... a series of locks and such that go pretty much from Lake Ontario to Georgian Bay. I have no idea as to how many miles long it is, but does take days to traverse. And yet, because of the lock-system, there is a definite limit to the size of vessel that dare enter.

Is Lake Ontario part of the Great Lakes?

Yep. I'm on the north shore of it, and the state of New York is directly across it from me.
