Even trekking around on day trips can be dangerous in freezing temperatures. Wear lots of layers and pack an inordinate number of warm socks!

Cheers, Elektra! An inordinate number of warm socks is a good idea. 
Decided to give any mountain walking a miss this time, after hearing all the avalanche warnings. That's not something I remember us having before, here! Farmers have lost a terrible number of sheep and cows - they're airlifting feed in now, but it's too late for a lot of them, sadly.
Still, it's been a nice break. Very invigorating!
