I'm getting 5-6 eggs daily from 8, which isn't bad considering 2 are older, so eggs less often but bigger (quite often an egg will fill my whole palm and partly cover my fingers! All single yolkers, too, at that size.) and 1 still is coming off of broody hormones (alas, while I gave her eggs, circumstances led to it being nearly a month before she got the eggs, so she ended up abandoning them halfway through, since she'd been sitting for 5 weeks at that point... I did manage to borrow an incubator to try to finish up, but by the time I got the eggs in, they'd been cold for over 40 hours, so it looks as though nothing will come of that clutch--they should've hatched earlier this week, and I'm pulling the plug in a few more hours if there's no sign of anything) so really only 7 layers right now. I bought 4 chicks at the feed store yesterday to make up for the nonhatch, and will be selling the pullets (I bought sex-links and barred rocks--I know the sex-links are girls, and I'm 90% sure the barred rocks are) once they're fully feathered--I have a limit of 11 birds here, and I want specific ones to fill out my limit.
Most of this, plus a link to the video of the girls' reaction to the complete surprise of having s (Mom was sneaky, with Papa's agreement), is in my journal already

Oh, not the online job, KB--I'd have you wielding a shovel, a hammer, or wire cutters.

My sister keeps bringing eggs over, and my egg allergy appears to have disappeared. Nothing like farm fresh.

I'd love to keep a few birds, but I wouldn't really have the time to do it properly. I gave a lot of thought to it at one point.

I would to have sixty or seventy pounds of Johnny-jump-up* seeds that I could scatter across he vacant lot next door. The thought of hundreds of thousands of those delightful little blossoms puts me in a state of bliss.

2legs - Hey, babe, take a walk on the wild side... Posted May 2, 2015
and I want a field of wheet.... or wild flowers.... and summer sun.... and a stream nearby ... and run naked through the wild flowers.... or... something I think I've left it a bit late though, to turn into a hippy so... boared.... and its a bit dark for running through fields this late at night.... unless one really wants the attention of the police I guess

Never mind too dark, it's too rainy! This rain is starting to get right on my .
I think there must be a case of mistaken identity: somebody upstairs thinks I'm Noah trying to find an excuse to build an ark.

"(I don't mind advice if I've asked for it, but unsolicited advice when I've worked everything out? Or, worse yet, advice that's actually pretty good, but would require starting all over when the project is 80% finished already...) "
Yes, I'm exactly this, too - I sort of felt unreasonable last week at being so annoyed to be given advice instead of the specific help I had asked for, but that makes me feel much better to know it isn't just me...!

I didn't know you'd had such a long period of rain. It's been mostly sunny where I am. I've started putting my planters outside in the sun so the seedlings can soak up the rays .

We didn't have a long period of rain, we've had a dry and sunny couple of weeks, but yesterday we got all that usual rainfall at once, with no break. It was like one of those New England five-minute cloudbursts, but it lasted all day!
