It is also my birthday, has been for as long as I can remember 
When people ask when my birthday is I like to answer 'craps' 11/7.
The European custom of writing it 7-11 is even better
No matter what I do it keeps coming around, but it beats the alternative
When I was a kid it was great - we got 
Now all I get are notices to buy a new tag for the car
I thought about adding Joni to the Birthday list, but I was not sure how many would remember her. I had all her albums, but most people I know only remember the others who sang her songs

I was a college folkie, so Joni was pretty important in my life, even though I couldn't sing a single one of her songs. Didn't know those idiosyncratic tunings, and knew I didn't have the voice.

I have long been a fan of folk music, and after I learned about, Celtic music even more.
One of Joni's biggest talents was writing new music in the traditional style.
It is amazing how many different lyrics have been written to the same tune.
I can think of at least a dozen songs with the melody of 'stayed around this town too long' several for 'Rosin the Bow' and dozens of others.
As I hinted in my journal, my wife and I have moved into an 'Active 55+ community' commonly referred to around here as a 'Snow Bird Trailer Park'. One of the perks is a free Country Music performance every Tuesday night. The other week one of the musicians played an instrumental song 'Red Wing' which I instantly recognised as Woody Guthrie(and later Pete Seeger)'s 'Union Maid' song.
If I had to choose a favourite song it would change by the hour.
