No. I haven't got a wind sped indicator, but there's 3 weatherstations within 12 miles of here ,all saying that it's 23-30 mph.You can generally gauge it ,after you've been here a while.

At 40 mph, you have to hang on to the car door as it opens, or risk losing it. At 50mph, one is walking horizontally.

At 60, there could be a few roof slates loosening. At 70, you don't go out if you don't have to.

At 80, it sounds like an express train is just about to hit the house.

At 90, I'm usually under the duvet, with the radio earphones on.smiley - smiley

smiley - laughwould not be surprised, it is a pity that down the wind side of your fields, there wasn't any of those large firs, which would help deflect the winds a little

what you need to do here, is plant a hedge, then grow potentially bigger trees behind it,so they have shelter when they're immature.hopefully, by the time the big trees poke their heads above the parapet, they're strong enough to survive.

Doesn't always work.smiley - erm

willows are very cheap to get. you break off a bit and stick it in the ground and it grows.

Lousy windbreaks, though.

Hawthorn is good .taks a long time to grow ,here, though and never high enough to shield a house.

if i'd had enough cash when I first moved here, I could have planted a row of ash trees, and sycamores, that would probably stand the wind, but to be effective, takes about 20 years.
