The ramblings of a compulsive angler

Decided to go out again on the kayak this time from The Strand Gillingham . It was a lovely sunny day but all i managed was a small Pout . Not as spectacular as the ray fishing earlier in the week but at least i was catching fish .

The weather forecast was much better for today and i could now put into action my plan for some Thornback ray fishing from my kayak . I arrived at mid-morning at Minster on the isle of sheppey and set off for some sunken barges i had spotted on google maps . I anchored and began fishing , 45 minutes after i had started my rod hooped over and i was in . After a fair bit of tooing and throwing up poped a Thornback ray and into the net . Wow , dont you just love it when a plan comes together . An hour later i had another one even bigger than the first this put up a terrific scrap on a light 12lb boat outfit . It was a bit too choppy to weigh but i would estimate its weight at about 8lb

I had planned a trip out on my kayak for today but gales were forecast so i went carp fishing instead . Despite mild windy conditions usually being good for carp fishing i blanked .

With the weather being so horrible , with rain , snow and gales forcast for most of the week , it was not possible to get out on my kayak yet again . So i had to content myself with an afternoons carping on a local gravel pit . But with the weather so cold and sleety , i was going more in hope than expectation and so it proved to be . As i blanked yet again , but this run of interminable bad weather cannot last for ever and soon spring will finaly get going and i will catch some fish !

I decided to try a different tactic when trying to catch a pike from a yak . I again launched from Aylesford and this time fished only with lures . Mainly trolling as I paddled slowly , despite fishing all afternoon I again blanked , it's well ard this yak fishin' .
