Minnis Bay on the north Kent coast was my chosen venue for an early morning kayak fishing expedition . It was easy to launch there as the slip is close to the car and not too steep . I only paddled out half a mile or so before i droped the hook and started fishing . It was an hour or more until I had my first fish a Thornback Ray . I then had another one about an hour after that . It all went quiet until just before I was going to pack up , when i had a dog fish .

It was a lovely warm summery day so I decided to try and catch a few carp off the surface with my fly rod . Ulcombe was the venue and it was not long before I had them competing for floating trout pellets and dog mixer . It was then just a case of casting out a small piece of cork , attached to a hook and wating for a fish to make a mistake . I soon had a few and by the time I packed up I had had around a dozen .

I was lucky enough to get away from it all with a short break in Pembrokeshire , Wales . The cottage I was staying at was right next to the beach and of course I took my fishing kayak with me .
Over the next few days I thoroughly envoyed myself paddling below the towering cliffs and stopping now and again to catch a few fish . I caught lots of dog fish plus a few pollack and mackerel . The highlight of the trip was the scenery and I even managed to paddle through a rock arch .

For the afternoon and evening i fished a local clay pit . Going to the far end where the water was shallowest I cast out three baits at various depths . Although it was fairly warm at first the wind got up and by evening it had turned quite cold . Needless to say i caught nothing .

There was a break in the weather , so i took full advantage and decided to try Minster IOS . Setting off at high tide I paddled out to the sunken barges I had had success at before . Within a couple of hours i caught 2 Thornback rays and a couple of small whiting . With low water a couple of hours away i decided to head out for some deeper water . After paddle of about half a mile i found a deepression in the sea bed that had been scoured out near a large concrete block laying on the bottom . As low water approched i could see more blocks near by . I will have to investigate these when i get back out there in a few weeks time . I managed another Thonback plus a crab and a starfish .
I headed back an hour after low water hopeing there would be enough water for me not to have to drag the kayak through the mud . Unfortunately there was still not enough water so i had to paddle about off the beach for half an hour before i could come in . Next time i will leave it for 2 hours after L.W.
