Decided to have a go at Estuary carp again and as I had to do night shifts the next day and I had also recently made a nav/anchor light for my kayak , I decided to night fish . I got down to Aylesford at 2215 hrs , aproximatly high water . The new light worked fine and I paddled quietly down the river past the pubs , houses and factories until I reached Snodland . I fished were a small stream entered the river . I had not had any takes by dawn but at about 0600 one of my rods roared off and after a spirited fight I landed a mirror carp .
I had no scales with me , but would estimate its weight at about 15 lb . It was a bit of an ugly snub nosed brut but it looked beautifull to me . I was very pleased to catch this fish as I was fishing independantly and as nobody else fishes there , information on where and how to catch estuary carp is hard to come by . I think I can justifiably say that it was almost entirely my own work and not just doing what everybody else does that caught me this fish .

I decided on another bash at Minnis Bay to see if the small tope I caught last week had any bigger brothers . I arrived not long after dawn and paddled the mile or so out to the gore channel and tried to anchor in the deeper water . Unfortuneatly the tide was too strong and I dragged my anchor . I ended up fishing much shallower water than I had wanted to . By the time I had reeled in I had managed a few dogfish and a Thornback Ray .

I got up in the middle of the night and drove down to St Margarets at dawn . I paddled out to some deeper water and started fishing for mackerel . The white cliffs looked majestic in the early morning light .
The mackerel fishing was not easy and I only ended up with around a dozen at the end of the day . I was hoping to fill my coolbox with fish and then take them home and freeze them . But it was not to be .

I was up bright and early ready for the tide and was down at Minnis Bay by 0515 . It was a beutifull morning with bright sunshine and glassy seas . I paddled out to the gore channel about a mile off shore and anchored at the edge of the channel , in about 40ft of water . I started off by catching a few dogfish then a thornback ray . Then I had my first bass from a kayak , it was a little under sized to take home so I put it back . Before I reeled in and paddled for home I caught a small tope , my first ever . I think there may be bigger ones there and I will definately be back to see if I am right .

I spent the weekend in Exmouth Devon raising money for the RNLI and doing some rescue exersises . It was all good fun and despite the lousy weather everybody had a good time . On Saturday evening I managed to catch a Conger Eel of about 20 LB . My biggest fish so far from a kayak .
