I went to the post office and mailed your package today. "The Day Today", Hava Narghile, a couple of random tuneage treats, and two surprises I bought for you- the sort of thing you see and makes you think of someone. This time, that someone was you.

Ooh, Ta. I got the original 'Godzirra' with the Grauniad today. That'll be winging it's way towards you imminently.

Got a chuckle this morning from the music thread you started. No punk in the US? I've known at least 20 bands from Chicago alone, several of which (including most of the Geezers) can't stand limey music.
Bad Brains? Husker Du? Black Flag? Naked Raygun? Effigies? Minor Threat? Dag Nasty? Articles of Faith?

Gang Green? Misfits? Circle Jerks? Minutemen? Bikini Kill? Cramps? Descendents? Fear? The Gun Club? Nervous Eaters? Flipper? New Bomb Turks? X? Pink Lincolns (good friends, BTW)? Rocket From the Crypt? Scratch Acid? Screeching Weasel? Suicide? Dwarves? Voidoids?
Television, The Modern Lovers and Dead Kennedys, for 's sake?
Talking Heads, anyone?

Huh- I always thought of them as speed-metal (along w/ Cro-Mags and Corrosion of Conformity) back in the day. But yeah- them too!

Bah, you simpering limeys would've come up with the condition all on yer own. Stiff upper lips my ass.

I'd agree with the argument that British Punk has an entirely different aesthetic and social relevance than US punk, though. Here it was - still is - a significant political movement. (Having said that...David Cameron chose The Clash on Desert Island Disks. ...and the Jam...'Eton Rifles'
.
It's also been pointed out that it's the only known youth subculture that didn't have its own slang.

btw...have we s een Spike Lee's 'Summer of Sam'?

psychocandy-moderation team leader Posted Apr 24, 2008
I'll agree with the difference in social relevance. Here the social relevance was more about fighting against social inequality, and less about making a fashion statement.
Haven't seen "Summer of Sam", no.

There's a great Brooklyn punk he speaks with (what he thinks is) an English accent.

Funny! Have I never sent you any copies of K's CDs? The Geezrs have a song called "Limey Wannabe" where they poke fun at the kind of poseurs that pretend to be stylish British-influenced punks. I'll have to stick "Summer of Sam" in the queue. I've heard other good things about it anyway, and have yet to see a Spike Lee film I haven't liked.

Yes, you have. And I remember the track.
And do try and see '...Sam.'

Trying to remember... well, I didn't eaxctly like 25th Hour or Clockers, but I didn't *hate* them. Honestly, I think the only other ones I've seen were Jungle Fever (which was fine) and Do the Right Thing (which I really liked)...

25th Hour is brilliant! It makss a great political point about African-American imprisonment.

Looking forward to Confederate States of America sooner or later. And When The Levees Broke is bound to hurt.

CSA's had mixed reviews, and I don't think I'm going to bother, but "Levees" was pretty good- as much as it could be, IYKWIM.
