I'm one of the assistant community editors here, or <./>aces</.>. We greet newbies such as yourself and help you get settled. Review my colleague Feisor's list of Hints and Links at A719840. And examine the various features in the process, there's alot to see. Some of the items you'll find are the assortment of <./>smileys</.>, our newspaper <./>thepost</.> and <./>askh2g2</.>. It would be best to ask about travel/people/cultures and the Scandinavian countries there(in askh2g2). Not everyone sees your introduction - however in 'ask' the questions go out to everybody here.
You will also discover the Regional Researchers' Groups at A660313, the Researchers' 
Map at A5076614 and-among many other things-the Personal Space Workshop at A1123354. The Workshop will help you decorate or arrange your space/page much like Spicing Up Your User Page which Feisor mentions.
