you're right, there's nothing like solving a little problem to cheer me up!! would've preferred to include it in the allinone but perhaps it's better as a separate since if you upgrade Jont's you won't lose this one.
here goes - open this link in the Fireyfox
http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/andyd.music/amd_h2g2_datestamp.user.js
the script should appear with a bar at the top with a little red monkey and an install button - click on that and it should now work
you never did guess what the "M" in AMD stands for did you??

>>Feeling yukky again today as in the holidays<<
sorry to hear that - hope it's nothing like you had last time
must go and get something to eat before lunch/dinner time passes and I'll be having my dinner/tea
cool and overcast here - might be a good day to plant out s but might go and watch a bit of cricket instead - far less effort
Warks are playing a one-day game today but just had a look and they've not batted very well

Oooh is that the time? It seems to be working!!! Now I've no excuse not to realise what the time is and how long I've wasted here...
I think planting the is far more important than watching cricket...(how can I nip down and steal it off your allotment if you haven't planted any???)

Good Afternoon MabelJane and Andy,
Greetings to you both. My number is 3012525 - if either of you could come up with a 42 for me I'd be very grateful.
bws Eric :----)

Dear Eric,
How about this (though Andy will laugh at its simplicity - he can come up with the clever stuff)
30 -1 -2 + 5 + 2*5 = 42
MJ
xx
PS I'd have been quicker but the laptop decided to delete my post as I was finishing....

The simpler the better I think MJ - I was pleased with 21 - 25 + 1 + 45 for your id

I notice you've been trying to get Eric to write something in his intro - perhaps he hasn't got anything interesting to say about himself - or perhaps he's shy.

Oooh found another!
3 + (0 *1) - 2 + 5 * (2 + 5) = 42 My (brackets) may need tweaking!!!
Good for the brain - yes, I know, another easy peasy one!

>>the timer starts when you click on Reply<<
there is a comment in the script about possibly inserting the time stamp at the actual time of posting but they've never implemented it for whatever reason - probably not worth the effort

>>3 + (0 *1) - 2 + 5 * (2 + 5) = 42 My (brackets) may need tweaking!!!<<
I wouldn't dream of tweaking your brackets my dear MJ!!
But you do need some more:
(3 + (0 * 1) - 2 + 5) * (2 + 5) = 42
otherwise the answer's 36
I haven't even tried this one yet.

Have to go and do somethig worthwhile now() but it's been nice talking to you and Eric.
Go and plant those how many? Salivating at the thought of munching freshly stolen ...I'll bring my own organic butter (though eaten that fresh there'll be no need for a garnish). Can you eat them straight off the plant or do they have to be cooked?

(3 + (0 * 1) - 2 + 5) * (2 + 5) = 42
Ooooh that's better. It's a very cosy, huggy looking sum now.
I'm sure you can come up with one involving ! and other devilishly fiendish devices.
Oooh how about
(3 + 0 + 1 + ( 2* 5 )) * (-2 + 5) = 42
I'm quite pleased with this one - again feel free to tweak!!!

I've got a ! and a sqrt in this one:
(3! + 0 + 1) * sqrt(2 + 5 + 2) / .5

been to a bit of cricket at Harborne - off out for drink with C in about an hour once I've had something to eat
see you later, Andy
just thought of a second one for my id
((7! * 2 / 5!) + 0) * 0.5

An ! AND a sqrt - well done you - and I'm awarding a well done to myself too for understanding it!
Had a long theraputic soak in the bath but 3012525 kept niggling my brain so I came up with a few more...of course, although they're v. simple, I may have gone wrong with my negative no.s as I'm rather rusty (I'll humbly accept your corrections in red ink):
-3 + 0 +(-1 * 2) + 52 - 5 = 42
-3 + (0* 1)+(2 * 25) - 5 = 42
(30 - 1 - 2)+ ((5 - 2) * 5) = 42
Once again, tweak away!
I'm sure this is very good exercise for the Jane brain. I tried so hard with multiples of 42 but at best was always one or two away from 42. And as you've probably already noticed it's 44 with 301 - 252 - 5 which is remarkably close. Have you seen "A Beautiful Mind"? In the bath I wished I had a tile pen so that I could write these calculations all over the bathroom tiles then that reminded me of whatever his name is in A B M writing all over the windows.
Also decided (in the bath) to have that kitten...must have been far too relaxing in there!
MJ
PS Kitchen beckons...
