I found that absolutely hilarious, if not slightly tyrranical. Beautiful! ::speaks in bad dubbed over subtitles while saying Magnifique!:: Magnificent. And i do agree with you. I find the new rules to placate the beeb softly FASCIST *blows a kiss and gives the come hither soap opera smile to the Mod*r*tor* You know...maybe moderators aren't all that shabby, atleast we know that "someone" will always be reading what we write...

I hadn't really thought about it that way, but now that the moderators have real jobs that require them to work, it should keep them out of trouble.
You know before BBC took over I heard Peta had picked up a really nasty cribbage addiction that had lead her into the dangerous world of black market garden gnomes. Hopefully this will help her. And poor Mark Moxon can finally give up crocheting to fill his time -- when I heard he was giving away doilies every evening on street corners it just about broke my heart. A man should not have to stoop so low.
You will note that Mr. Moxon has (for the most part) reworded what used to be a staunch NO FUN ALLOWED HERE policy that the BBC had decreed From Upon High. However even with the new "Kinder, Gentler BBC Rules of Fun-Quelling" I still object to the "no foreign languages" thing. I mean, after all I am an American. You know how we spell things here.
WHAT IS A "FOREIGN LANGUAGE"???!!! Will I be banned because I honor rather than honour, simply because I color my phrases in lieu of colouring them?
"Dave, I am afraid."
-THDoM
P.S. Look for "The Art of Modern Crochet: a Retrospective" by Mark Moxon, in a book store near you.
P.P.S. Peta is almost finished serving the forty-two hours of community gardening service imposed by the magistrate -- and the rumors of mad cow being attributed to one of Peta's counterfeit Azerbaijani garden gnomes are completely untrue.

Don't worry Hal...
sigh actually do worry..where the h**k is all of your fabulous stuff that attracted me here in the first place?
Does the crochet master and the the cribbage gnomer know about the agressive darkness that has fallen upon your page here, voluntarily?
Sigh...things will get better, right? *feeds you marshmallows while you suffer in bbc bondage*
In a way i was thinking that perhaps moderation is here...so that the guide would have some...opposition inside it...to make it more interesting for the bbc to market...as opposed to our old "community brotherhood of researchers"
I'll end with the fitting words of the great floyd..."hey you...out there beyond the wall, breaking bottles in the hall ..can you help me? Hey you! don't tell me there's no hope at all...together we stand...Divided we fall...we fall....we fall.

There is no pain, you are receding ... I love the version of CN done in front of the Brandenburg gate by Van Morrison. That was absolutely astonishing, especially with the orchestra, although the album itself just grabs me right >there<. So does Misplaced Childhood by Marillion. >shudder<
I hope the BBC Copyright Detector v.1.13.2.3.14.42 Mark III does not find that quote you inserted or it'll be clipped.
What I have found is that apparently the powers that be think we'll get used to censorship. And as I said on the intro page, a sub editor basically told those of us who do not agree with the changes that we could go somewhere else.
I am still lurking about, but the Duke is silent.
I am feeding the larvae, and I have all of his Nefarious Plans for Humanity (tm) filed away here in hermetically-sealed CO2 filled cylinders, awaiting His Time of Return. Muahahahaha.
And I am kibbutzing in here on his message service.

Wait, was that a foreign language???
ATTN MODERATORS:
MMMMMMMPH IS NOT A WORD IN ANY KNOWN HUMAN LANGUAGE.
It may be rather risqué in Venusian, but that's talk that we're trying to avoid to Please the Powers that Be.

*laughs evilly* That was possibly vogonic poetry you spoke there...What an amazing discovery...we can all speak vogon if our mouths are filled with marshmallows...uhm...heheh. I have inadvertantly supported foreign/alien language by feeding you marshmallows...lol
Now i think it's terrible that a sub editor said to go "elsewhere" ...i just can't believe it...it's like having a faithful dog...and you wake up one f***ed up unexpected morning to your jugular being ripped out by old yellar..just because you forgot to give em a bacon treat.
Rats. Rats rats...are you one and the same as the Duke or just a friend who im feeding marshmallows to as well
Yep you are right...I may get busted for that quote but what the way its fitting isnt it?? "we dont need no beeblecation...we dont need no thought control..."
Bye the way COMFORTABLY NUMB!! is my favorite song of all time...has been for many years now...ahhh just to listen to it..I'm going to put it on right now. I've never heard the version of it that you've spoken of...but i'll keep my eyes peeled now.
*sets up the marshmallow vigil*

I am the Duke. Or I was, in another life. Before ...
The horror ...
H ... horror ...
"Comfortably Numb" makes me cry. I have felt that way before, I never ever want to go back to that. I can listen to the song OK, but if I sing it, whoa, on go the waterworks. That one, and "Every Day Is Like Sunday" by Morrissey.
I'm not just a loony, I am a sentimental one too.

ahh...yes sigh....comfortably numb...is "one of those" songs...and since im into torturing myself i think i'll check out the morissey song you mentioned! lol
you might like radiohead...they have this song called "let down" that makes me go all rubbery ..."don't get sentimental...it always ends up drivel..one day i am gonna grow wings...a chemical reaction...hysterical and useless..." ahhh the songs...ooooh oooh ooh
fabulous to be a sentimental loonytune...

Slut is in incredible band, and they seem to be only hitting in Germany (I wonder why ...) VERY pretty, the song that I first heard was "It Was Easier". I am also really fond of one, and only one song by Travis, "Why Does It Always Rain on Me?"
I downloaded a few other tracks by them, none were as good.
I just heard about Eva Cassady a few days ago on CNN, I grabbed her version of "Fields of Gold." Very pretty. Radiohead is excellent.
BUT
Not all of the music I enjoy sounds like it was recorded under the influence of tranquilizers. I enjoy Prodigy, some Nine Inch Nails, Front 242, Orgy, etc .... And a really sick fellow who always throws the name Foetus into his disc titles.
Like my personality, my musical taste is an ecclectic mix.
You know, if you melt chocolate, toast the marshmallows on an open flame until they turn golden, dip them into the chocolate and then squoosh them between two Graham crackers you get what we Yanks call a s'more (as in gimme s'more.) I'll supply the Graham crackers n chocolate.

aka Rivendell..well ofcourse i'm a huge fan...(changed the l and the a around with poetic license for personal aesthetic purposes...ok i thought imLADris sounds to MALE to me...sigh...prisoner of my own device)
i love that song by travis...you know the only other song like by them is a cover they do by men at work (yes the "she just smiled and gave me a vegemite sandwich..." it's called overkill and it's...all about insomnia i guess ...i can't sleep at night..i think about the implications of diving in too deep and possibly the complications especially at night..i worry over situations dada i know it'll be alright it's just Overkill...
I got that morrissey song (i napsterized aka stole it) i love it! woot
i'll check into slut asap! Eh...for some reason i find myself very into music that "means" something to me. Go figure. i'm really into...radiohead and tori amos... and on the sappier/weird side i just love peter gabriel (the man just "knows" something...a secret i think)...NIN is awesome i must say thou i only have 5 of the existing halos.ooh and this band autechre (german i think also) i'm beginning to get into...it's all synth beats but it's very relaxing (good driving music to look at people and scenery)
by yank you're meaning american right? Imaldris is american as apple pie being a yank from ny myself!
woosh a drunk yank tonite (yes i get drunk and come home to play on the internet hahahahah)...heh so hopefully i dont sound like a bloody (can i say that?lets just experiment and see....) fool! hah!

I am a Yank too. I think most of us who object to the new rules do so due to cultural difficulties. We are the few, the obstinate, the Americans.
I notice a moderator is indeed prowling through here. The site that was removed from my above comment is the official web site for the Lord of the Rings movie. Search for it on the search engine of your choice. The movie(s) are going to be fantastic.
They are filming the full trilogy.
Anyways, I gotta get to bed.
Take care you, hope you had some aspirin and a nice tall glass of water handy in the morning.

By the way, moderators, can you see how "I assume that [URL removed by moderator] would mean something to you. I will be in line on opening day." might discourage free interchange?
I realize allowing URLs in approved entries was a tremendous victory for which we should all be deeply grateful, but imagine speaking on the telephone to a friend with a five second delay, so any references that you might make to (insert arbitrary item here) would be beeped. What would you discuss? How would you discuss it?
Why bother to have conversation areas on a web site if the Internet cannot be discussed on the Internet?
No need to reply. I have heard more than enough in various other areas on H2G2 on this subject. I would just as soon have one small area free from debate, even if it isn't free from your protecting visitors from non-approved references.
