Clive the flying ostrich: Amateur Polymath | Chief Heretic.

I see what you mean, maybe I should re-word that sentence. But don't you think that naming a Babel Fish "Babel" is like naming your dog "dachshund" or "Mountain Feist, Jack Russel Terrier mixed-breed"?smiley - huh Although, I wouldn't have to tell people what kind it is...On second thought, it's not a bad name. It's short, easy to spell, pronounce, and remember.

My nomination for your smiley - fish is SMIKE.
As I am sure you are fully aware, Smike was abandoned when a child and sent off to Dotheboys Hall. The nasty, vile Squeers mistreats him there. Nicholas Nickleby rescues him.

I think that there has to be a similarity between you being in High School, and Smikesmiley - fish starting off at Dotheboys Hall(not that YOU are being mistreated, I hope!! If you are, let me know and I shall put in a good word for you!). I just know that your smiley - fish will adore his new name. Is hesmiley - fish at high school too?

Plebis means of the (common) people/person. It's Latin.

I kind of guessed that it was Latin from your PS. Thank you for the translationsmiley - smiley.

No self-respecting Thingite would dare name his fish Thy. Although I will consider Allit, but first, what does that mean?

Surely every outstanding young high-school chap has a Thesaurus! smiley - winkeyeIt would come in very handy. I wouldn't be without mine. It will have to go on your 'Wish List' or 'Needs List'.

How about a good sea-faring name-CAPTAIN CUTTLE-for your smiley - fish. It comes from my favourite Dickens book"Dombey and Son".
