When I was younger, I didn't mind driving in traffic. I never had any problems driving in Houston. I've driven in dozens of cities, some quite large, and the only one I genuinely hate is Dallas. I have this mental block about Dallas for some reason. I've gotten lost there more often than all other cities combined. I even got lost there the last time I went with a GPS. The smiley - bleep GPS was lost!

The second worst city to drive in for me is Boston. Drivers there are crazy. I've never been to California, so have no experience with the dreaded LA traffic.

This article's writer isn't too impressed by that trillion fps camera, and to be honest, I had my doubts as well.

http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2011/12/is-this-really-one-trillion-frames-per-second/

I think he's got it a bit wrong, but I think he's on to something. The simple explaination is a bit too simple. I think there is potential here, but it's a bit more complicated than can be easily explained.

There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho

They did point out that they can only image repeating phenomena, like a pulsed laser, which is in effect a strobe light, so I think this bloke is trying to be a bit too smart for his own good. And he can't spell.

When I started watching that, I wondered if we were about to zoom in on some uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the western spiral arm of the galaxy smiley - tongueout

I find all of this interesting, but I have to admit I don't understand a lot of it. Now they are using particle physics to try to prove the exsistence of god when all along I thought they were doing the opposite.

As for black holes, I think I'll use them as one of my possible scenarios this fall in my Doomsday exhibit.

If you're asking about the experiments at the Large Hadron Collider, the popular term "god particle" is unfortunate. I'm not sure who coined it, but physicists really wish they hadn't. The Higgs boson, when its existence is confirmed will help explain why things have mass and may help explain how gravity works. Gravity is still quite mysterious in how it functions. Does it follow the particle/wave duality like all the other basic forces, or is just an aspect of the fabric of the universe? But no, they're not looking for god per se.

Or are you talking about the astronomers and their search back into the origins of the universe? Either way, physicists and astronomers are just looking to see how the universe works not to prove or disprove imaginary creations.

Heh... You remember that "earth-like planet" recently discovered by the Kepler observatory that is in the habitable zone around its star?

Did you see those films of Comet Lovejoy passing through the sun's corona and coming out the other side, after everyone though it was going to get swallowed up? Just incredible.

If you haven't seen this yet, you're in for a treat. This is basically a web version of the Total Perspective Vortex, but it has some pleasant music so it won't likely annihilate your brain.

Lady Pennywhistle - Back with a vengeance! [for a certain, limited value of Vengeance; actual amounts of Vengeance may vary]

My geologist sister showed me this link, which I find very cool:
