The Eagle Has Landed.

ConcordeAll About Me Well my name is Ben, and I'm 45 years old. 5' 11" and of average build. I called myself bald_eagle1 because I shave my head. I was going bald any way, so what the hell. I do nothing by halves me. I have blue eyes, and am losing my teeth too. Some how I think I'm falling apart, but I can see the funny side of it though. Well you have to laugh don't you? Worrying about it gets you nowhere, and you still end up in the same place any way. What will be will be as they say. I do love a good laugh, and do not take life too seriously. As you can more and likely guess I have done a lot in my life, and have been a bit of a boy in my time. So I'm far from being an angel. But live and let live is my motto, and no one is perfect in my book. I certainly know I'm not. I have changed a bit in my time I suppose. Seeing life and being an ex undertaker sort of does that to you. It shows you the not so nice things in life, and the things we all know is part of life. I suppose as you get older you do get wiser. I also worked in a hospital, and now I'm a carer for my old Mum. Hey if there is any other carers out there give me a call. I'll be glad to talk to you. Its great talking to others in the same boat as yourself. You have something in common, and who knows you could even help each other in a way. Mum is in her 80s now, and I must admit I do feel for her sometimes. Losing my Dad took a lot out of her, and me too. I know how she felt, but there again she was his wife. If I can think of any more about me, I'll add it on later. I think I'll take my time with this page. No rush is there? You can always ask me anything you need to know. RadioMy Interests Are many I have to say. I just love the internet, and think its growth is amazing. Ever since I very first come on here I seen a lot of changes. One of my favourite sites has to be BBCi website. It has to be one of the biggest sites on the net, and I find loads of information I want on there. Education wise the old Beeb is one of the best in my book. I like looking at some of my favourite tv programs websites sometimes. Ok I'm sad, but at least I'm happy. Hey! I'm not young any more, I'm middle aged now, "so everyone tells me." My daughter calls me old, but hey! I'm her Dad, and to think all them years ago I use to laugh at my own Dad, for telling me that some of the things I liked were crap. I knew I was getting old when I started to enjoy BBC Radio2, Not to say that everyone that listens to it is old, because their not. All ages listen to it. I love it because some of the DJ's I grew up listening to are now on there. I must admit though I did get a bit of a complex when I started to like BBC Radio4, but I find it so interesting on there though. I tell you, you learn a lot from listening to that, and I like some of them stories on there. I cant believe they still broadcast the The Archers on there though. That was going since before I was born, and still going strong. I do like to listen to it sometimes though, and can remember old Mum listening to it when I was a kid. I listen to radio2 more now though. I love the music and the chat. Talking about programs that were on the radio when I was a kid. There is one page I must look at on h2g2, Childrens TV Memories It does look interesting I must admit.

Other Interests

I do have other interests though. I love to read and write, and sites like h2g2 really interest me. I love going out to places of interest, and love going out to meet people. I do drink, but not so much now. I smoke too, but a guy has to have some vices right? Being single again leaves me free to do as I want really, as long as I take care of Mum, and make sure she is happy, then that leaves me free to do the things I like. I often sit down with her and watch our favourites on tv, but I'm always here if she needs me though, even while on my computer. I sit on here listening to my radio while I work away on the net.

DAB Radio

A few months ago now I looked into one of them DAB radios. I had heard they were really good, and read about them too. It did say that they were the future of radio broadcasting. Like many I was very curious. Radio has always been a very keen interest of mine. I am also a very interested SWL. (shortwave Listener) I have spent many hours listening to other Broadcast stations throughout the world, and have a nice collection of QSL cards, and post cards from them. Another thing I like is listening to is Ham radio enthusiasts. (Better known as radio amateurs) Its great to sit there and listen to people talking from all over the world. I once sat there listening to my friend G0BBD talking to JY1 on the 20meters band. By the way JY1 was the then King Husein of Jordan. Since the internet had become public and world wide, I haven't been keeping up with my radio work. I sort of went back to the normal broadcast stations, so DAB was a new concept to me. The UK is the biggest developer of DAB radio broadcasting, and is also the main leader of it throughout the world. Most of the UK is set up to broadcast the digital signals. Any way I got one these radios, and have to say I will never go back to the old ways now. Best thing I ever did going over to DAB radio. If anyone else out there also has DAB, then give me a shout, and tell me what you think of it. Its nice to have no crackle or hissing any more. Just CD quality sound. If you want to find out more about Digital radio then look at Digital Radio Now. It will tell you more about it, and is a very interesting read. A lot of the big radio broadcasters have gone digital now, and that includes our dear old BBC. Your be surprised when you see what stations Broadcast on DAB. This is not an advert by the way, I'm just saying what I think. I know I wont ever go back to the old radios again now. Someone online (on h2g2) hooked up to a drip!

What Shall I DO Now?

Well I'm just going to kick back and enjoy hootoo. I cant believe just how much its changed, and it has been for the best. The help pages are a lot better I would say. The Don't Panic Help Centre is a good place to start with on hootoo, and by what I remember was one of the key words on hootoo. A bit like old coporal Jones in Dads army. "Don't panic, don't panic." There is no need to do that on h2g2 really. There are enough help pages, ACE's and Guru's that would be only to pleased to help you. All About h2g2 is a must to look at. If your having trouble with Guide ML it will certainly help you. It did me. How To Write in Guide-ML and Guide-ML Clinic is also well worth looking at. I remember the first time I ever looked at it, and thought: "What the hell is this?" But play with it, and look at them pages, and you will see its not that hard really. I had a few problems myself earlier with a couple of links, and just by looking at it, and comparing it with the pages, I found where I had gone wrong. I think its handy to learn another way of doing things. Lets face it hootoo have not done bad have they? Even HTML can have its problems, and there is good and bad in all things. Everything can seem hard till you know how to do it. Try h2g2 Picture Library and don't forget the Community Art Library they will help you make your home space look pretty good. You will look at it afterwards and think, yeah! I did that. You will have a right to feel proud of yourself. Don't forget the The House Rules though, and remember others use hootoo as well. Another way to express yourself on hootoo is by using the Smileys. They are great fun so give them a shot. Peregrine for President by Peregrin

Just A Little More

Well I guess that is it for now, until I can think of something else to put here. I love that pic above. I have always been into birds. Now stop it! I did mean the feathered kind. Having been divorced twice I'm sure that speaks for itself ROFL.

Always Here To Help

If I can help any of you I will. Just leave a posting in my home space here, and I will do my best to help you. I'm also a good listener, and can give some advice. Sometimes another point of view can be helpful. Never say never I say, there is always another side to a situation. I have been in some right scrapes in my time, and I'm still here. There are things I would change if I could live my life over again, but there again that could also change where I am now, so maybe its a good thing I cant. I still miss my Dad every day, even though its seven years now since he past away. You never get over these things, you just learn to except it. The pain does get easier, and at least you have your memories to look back on. He was a great Dad, and I love him very much. Who knows I might get the chance to tell him sometime. I hope you like my page. I could well make changes in the future. I will enjoy hootoo, and do what I can on here. Good luck to anyone that reads this, and please do feel free to have a chat anytime.
