You're all actually mad, aren't you?!

Have any of you actually ever seen / heard / read / etc. the Hitchhiker's Guide? Do you actually know who Douglas Adams is? Or are you just "crazy" students who go round signing everybody's guestbooks? Eh? Eh?

Myself, I've only read the "Trilogy" twice. It has been a while, though, and I was preparing to undertake the task again. That's when I discovered this site, and Ive been somewhat distracted ever since. As for who Douglas Adams is, sorry to say I don't know much about him, other than a few scraps of info I read on the book jackets. I'm afraid central Alabama, U.S.A. is not a hotbed of Brittish humor fans. Hey, and for all those who are here who don't know exactly what The Hitchhikers Guide is,I can't imagine a better place for them to learn!

thing is, who are you accusing of being mad? the writers of the site or the readers of the site? Since they are one and the same are you accusing the creatives behind setting it up? - in which case I think they have a fair idea of who Douglas Adams is. If you mean the people who are contributing I think you have to ask yourself whether it actually matters where it all came from originally or whether it matters more where its going to!

In which case, you then have to consider that relating bits of the original tomes is cool and funny with your friends - and fairly amusing on a chat page - hell, I'm not the one to talk about reciting other peeps' comedy sketches - but peeples have gots to come up with their own stuff!!!! Please no more paraphrasing!

- have I talked sufficient drivel? good.

I think it helps to know about the hitchikers trilogy as it gives you an idea of where this came from and where you fit in. But at the same time I think it isn't essential. Although I do find it ace to be a part of my favourite book....

You're right. If you havn't read the "trilogy",there are a lot of references and comments in here which would make absolutely no sense at all. Actually, making sense is not the point, anyway. It's all about flights of fancy and where your imagination can take you!

It seems starting conversations is not the problem. Stopping them can be tricky----- if not downright impossible!(It may even be a bit on the dangerous side) If you haven't been, a good example is the forum for "The Answer to Life, The Universe and Everything". Make sure you've got plenty of brew on hand, especially if you plan on reading all the entrys! It does take a while!

OK, sorry. Go there, just take the petunias with you, they've been nothing short of despondant recently, they could do with being cheered up!

Prez HS (All seems relatively quiet here)

On top of that, why not try and make them laugh yourself?
Petunias are a breed of non-fruit very susceptible to humour.
Do you know why they are so silent?
Remember some of your most uncontrollable outbursts of hilarious, homeric laughter. Yeah? Remember how at the very end of your breath you have nothing left to make a sound with? How the loudest laugh is always less extreme than the soft one, the insidious one?

Petunias, I believe dear all, are always in that state of being.
Fun, what? Yes, but silent fun.

Sorry to blow all your illusions but the H2G2 "trilogy" is a factual work and there has not been a better biography of one mans travel ever !! (Good books aren't they)
