ACE's welcome expatmw!

I'm popping in as one of the assistant community editors or <./>ACEs</.> here. We greet newbies such as yourself and help you to get settled. And getting settled is that much easier when you know where things are. So my colleague Feisor has compiled a comprehensive list of Hints and Links at A719840. Take your time going over that as well as examining the various features in the process. Some of those features are; the Regional Researchers' Groups at A660313 - there's also a Researchers' Map at A5076614, the questions/topics in <./>askh2g2</.>-you might ask about other expats there-, our newspaper <./>thepost</.> and the assortment of <./>smileys</.>. Actually, should you require it there's even the Personal Space Workshop at A1123354 to assist you in accenting or perhaps transforming your page.

Feel free to leave me a message should you have a question or anything, alright. Oh and expat?...no, wonders of the 'net I'm still at home in Canada. smiley - cheers*waves*

Thank you for your kind welcome. I am still a bit bewildered about it all - there seem to be so many learned people here, I am a mere pleb! Must--get-- more-- brains.Would chocolate help, I have consumed enough tonight.

Ah good to get a prompt reply/response - you're most welcome! Just 'take things in' here gradually - it all becomes clearer with time. And reviewing Feisor's list should help considerably. I'm actually quite a pleb myself for what it's worth.

Ah smiley - droolGerman smiley - choc! I live near a German grocery, so Stollwerck and the Ritter Sport bars are among my favourites! A German organic bar, Vivani http://www.vivani.de are a new favourite. In my opinion any excuse to eat smiley - choc is reatively sound advice!smiley - winkeye

Another chocaholic - great. I am not a huge fan of Ritter bars but have you seen the huge number of flavours they come in these days?
Have not seen the other bar - vivaldi was it, but I will look out for it.
Where are you in the world, I have just got up - a bit of a lie in today, it is Sunday you know!smiley - smiley

smiley - erm Missed you there! Yes I've seen the array of Ritter Sport bars...had both an Irish Cream and a Whisky flavour. I sense though that those were a limited(holiday)edition, so to speak. A longtime favourite is their Plain or dark smiley - choc with a minimum 55% cocoa solids. Vivani was the organic bar, they also have a variety of flavours - not near as many as the Ritter Sport though! I'm in Canada...western Canada &(nightowl that I am)I've yet to get to bed! But yes will hopefully have a bit of a lie in as well.

I have never been to canada, but a friend lived there for a while and really loved it, they even bought a small house over there.
I am guessing here but you must be about 8-9 hours behind us.I suppose it is the middle of the day over there.
I only seem to get a very little time to look at these type of things and that is usaully in the evenings. So I am sorry if there is a delay in my replies sometimes.
How did you end up being a regulator( if that is the correct title)You must be a very regular contributer.

sorry - just looked and you are an ACE - does that stand for anything or just mean you are ace?

The ACE stands for assistant community editor...they(BBCinteractive)recruit them/us to welcome recent registrants-as we were ourselves once. I believe about an 8 hour difference... http://www.worldtimeserver.com yes, if I read correctly 8 hours - I'm in Alberta.

It must be fantastic to be asked by the BBC to become an ACE! Or does it mean a lot of hard work?

jaz'd(ace & yada yada *sigh* chocolate yada)

I haven't experienced any terribly hard work...it's a voluntary position, you do what you're able to and when you're able to. Or so I've done!

I must say - it really makes you feel at lot more welcome when you first start.
It seems that when a conversation is started a lot of people already know each other and I feel it would be rude to interupt when they are passing messages to each other that seem personal - for example - how are the children, did the holiday go well and the such like.

Yes, I find I often use discretion rather than just 'blundering in'(what's known a 'lurking')...but most people here are quite accepting and acknowledge the accessability of the internet. And I suppose realize that we're all relatively like-minded individuals here.

Post 14

jaz'd(ace & yada yada *sigh* chocolate yada)

That's 'like-minded' in a rather global sense!smiley - winkeye

Things are certainly global here, is there a place to see the different places that people come from rather than try and see from their pages - that would take ages.( I certainly don't have time for that type of luxury!)
Has there been a thread about this in the past - if not maybe I will start one , or will people think it too intrusive.

Yes (that's what was intended) - I don't know how many are using it. That's the global Researchers' Map at A5076614. As I say, people are quite accepting(if you did start a thread on the topic)...there may have been a thread started in the past.

That map thing is great, there must be oodles of things on this site that a lot of people do not know about. I will put my marker on ASAP. None in my part of the world at the mo, a couple in the south though.
I will try and find you as well - presuming you are on there.

I am going to have another go at the map tonight to see of it will load near to where I live.
