Jim,
Thaks for the time if you pick this up. Fairly new to using h2g2 but seem to be having sign on problems using other BBC message boards. Keep getting prompted on my home PC to change my user name. Is this being addresed or me being thick.
Travel hopefully.....

You can't use your h2g2 username on the BBC messageboards - they use an older registration system. You should be able to use the username and password you were using before we changed to using SSO. Don't try and create a new account though - just log in. However, if you can't remember your previous login name and password then you will have to create a new account.

Hi WanderingAlbatross
*waves at Jim*
Putting this query together with F73685?thread=438806, I'm wondering if your sign-on symptoms (and the difference between your work computer and your PC at home) is due to the cookie settings. You can change the cookie settings in the preferences of your browser.

Thanks for this, my work settings are defaulted to medium and probably lower at home. I'll play around a bit this evening.

Hi Amy the Ant,
The conflict seems to be machine related. I can access h2g2 ok on my work pc but when I then try to log into BBCi with a different user i.d. it seems to be picking up my h2g2. Same at home except other way around. Problem could have been caused by trying to use h2g2 user name on BBCi.

I still suspect a cookie problem. Do you use the 'remember me' facility for h2g2 (a) at work? (b) at home?

I did once on both boxes and I think it holds them in tenp files somewhere. Maybe a delete temp internet files?

I'd be tempted to log out of dna and log out of the message boards and then delete the cookies called BBC-UID and SSO2-UID before logging in. Of course you'd need to be very sure that you knew the right combinations of user ids and passwords before doing this.
