Hey!
Thanks LB for coming onto my personal space and doing my survey, it was for a bit of fun and thanks again for participating I'm always curious about other people and their reactions to questions and points of view, and whether they are humourous in their replies.
May I ask, being as you mention that you are high school student, what do you intend to do for a career? You mention MIT and that you are good at math, being as I am thick at math and have no idea what MIT is, I would prefer that you enlighten me, being as you know what you are talking about. I could look it up, but I would like to hear in your own words please
Its great to see you on the God thread expressing yourself and the reactions of others to your responses.
Cheerio for now

MIT is the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Sorry. It is (arguably) the best engineering school in the US and maybe the world and one of the best science and math schools in the US and the world.
The thing is, becasue it is so good, it is really hard to get in. I'm not sure if my SAT scores will be high enough (I'm taking them this spring).
(If you're not American, SATs are the most common generall college entrance test in the US, though ACTs are also occasionally used.

I think you're overly optamistic. They only accept about a sixth of those who apply and they care about extracurricular activities--something I've basicly ignored except for quizbowl this year.

You are probably right, in my being overly optimistic, I just wanted to say something nice, and if you do study hard, I don't see no reason why you shouldn't be one of the small percentage. If not *shrug* better luck next time, or try something else, all you can do is your best...you can only sweat so much blood over homework
I just wanted to wish you the best is all
Well this is an extra curricular surely? What kind of extra curricular activities do they mean, set ones? Perhaps they want more than a brain, and to see what to see what kind of person you are...so to speak. If so and you really want to make it in, can't you research what kind of expectations they expect from their students and strive for it?
Otherwise you may be right...and your brain power alone isn't enough to secure you a placement. If I were you, I'd kick myself if I lost out on an opportunity if for instance I failed to get in cos I didn't do Physical Ed or Art, after all its YOUR future.. Never too late to change stuff...after all even if your not that interested in extra curriculars its at least worth it to make a studied interest just to get your placement? You could consider it, a personal experiment in human nature and well I could waffle on more about the benefits....I think you get my drift.....
Having an open mind is important in life. I am personally crap at math, but I can see why the MIT would be interested in seeing what kind of extra curricular activities you persue.

Sorry for my responce--I have a bad habit of being pessimistic to an unreasonable degree and argueing with anyone who ever suggests anything good might happen.

After school clubs and the like. But I really don't see how anyone has time for them. I barely get done with my homework as it is.
I know what type of extracurricular things they want, but the middle of one's junior year is a bit late, unfortunately. I've been lazy about it.

I did phys ed and hated it. It was one of the experiances that made me most likely to kill myself or others as a reasult. Fortuanately that is over with.
As for art; four years of orchestra ought to be enough for them.
I finally started some extracurricular activities--quizbowl and beggining Cello ensamble this year. But it may be too late.

You don't have to say sorry for your response, I didn't find it offensive!
Even if it is too late (which I hope it isn't and wish you luck) there are other placements surely that you have considered as a back up?
Yo!

Certainly.
University of Michigan
University of Maryland
Caltech (OK, that is a bit of a joke as a back-up; they're even harder to get into than MIT)
Maybe one of the Universities of California

yays!
At the risk of sounding like a careers officer what do you eventually want to do as a job?
I think its great that already have such direction in your life - what you want to do I'm in my 30's and I never did quite make my mind up where I wanted to be...

Probably chemist or physicist.

Of course, I may well change my mind...

So are you going to try any different books from the library rather than just the ones that you mentioned on the godthread?

Yeah. Currently I'm reading Jose Philip Farmer's Riverworld books. Also a biography of Shakespeare.

And I just finished Candide and The High Fronteer. I've got to get to my summer reading list.
