Katkodl's Timeout
Posted May 9, 2005
After having struggled for a few weeks I decided that I will take a timeout from hootoo. There are so many people and threads I’m fond of that it’s costing me too much time to reply to everyone and everything. I feel incapable of selecting a few threads while ignoring others. Not being able to reply properly is not only impolite but also makes me feel bad. So I decided to take a timeout.
I’m all busy with my studies, writing up my thesis. It’s taking me much longer than expected, and the stupid scribble refuses to take shape.
Then of course I spent too much time in the garden throughout the last week… I finally planted my seedlings (mainly mallows and cosmos) and now it’s becoming cold again and I’m afraid that they’ll all freeze to death!

I’ve already had to impose a ban on learning French and doing arts, and now it’s hitting hootoo! Not to mention that I didn’t even read a single book so far this year I really wanted to read. Only books for my studies… Oh, now all I’ve left is my telly (who refuses to show me terrestrial TV by the way – I’m afraid it’s kind of breaking down).
Well, all there’s left to say is that I’m going to miss you all so much!!! Oh, I nearly forgot to give you the emergency hotline: [email protected] . Only use it in emergencies, like when you need a , or there turns up a new in your garden I should know about! No, really I’d be happy to receive the one or other mail, I don’t want to lose contact with you guys!
Anything else? Don’t think so…
Have a nice day / week / month… !

Let it snow!
Posted Feb 3, 2005
Heya!
Austria is drowning in snow! It’s just wonderful (at least for me )! I was just outside cleaning the sidewalk from snow… There is hardly any slush yet, just fluffy fresh snow.
That’s perfect timing I have to say: I had my last exam (for a while) yesterday , and now I have some time for myself. I’m looking forward to going for a walk through the winter landscape – so much snow is quite impressing! And: it shows no signs of stopping. ...I should take some photos so that I have something to look at next Christmas!
Now all the blackbirds from around are gathering in our yard enjoying apples! They are so sweet! They just love apples in winter, and what they are leaving behind just looks like applesauce (if you know what I mean ).
No wind, not too cold, masses of snow: just perfect!

4 more days
Posted Dec 19, 2004
Only four more days till Christmas! I’ve decorated the house Christmassy, I’ve visited several Christmas Markets and drank a lot of punch, I’ve been listening to Christmas carols for over a month now… and I’m not in a Christmassy mood at all. Only the fact that the family is more grumpy and impolite than usual reminds me of the fact that it is Christmas.
We have still no snow, which is a pity. On the other hand the warm weather is most favorable, and best of all there is no wind. The perfect weather to go for walks.
There are two things that deserve to be mentioned in my journal, and here they are:
1st: I’ve hung up some bird seed in front of the window I’m looking at when working at my desk. Everyday the visit me now, and I can watch them. The nuts hang an estimated ten centimeters in front of the window pane… and the tits don’t mind me pressing my nose against the pane so that I can watch them . I’ve never seen (native) birds from such a close distance before! And I have to admit that the nuns are a little scary to look at from that close , but the great tits are just loveable. It’s such a pleasure to watch them!
2nd: It’s more than eight months ago that I smoked the last cigarette. If someone had told me a year ago that I was a non-smoker by now I would have laughed at him/her. But now I don’t even mind going out with smokers anymore, i.e. I’m not craving the effect of tobacco any longer. Okay, I’m getting nervous when running out of mint pastilles (which are my cigarette-substitute) – but who cares, at least they aren’t toxic. (But obviously lethal: yesterday I nearly choked on one of my pastilles! That was scary… and embarrassing! )
There is still a lot to be done before Christmas Eve, e.g. baking cookies, buying a fir and getting some more presents. I’m not sure whether I’m looking forward to the following days, or if I’d rather run away and hide. Christmas is such a time!

Brief Soujourn
Posted Oct 16, 2004
I’m back. Well, not really. Actually I’m just here to say that I won’t be much around in future. Sorry to everyone who’s waiting for a reply… I’ve just realized that it’s over six weeks ago that I was here the last time. Which is weird, cause I like this place a lot, I just don’t feel like talking. And of course there’s university which is keeping me away from doing things I’m fond of.
Now to the important part of this post:
Happy belated birthday to Cali_gal and happy belated birthday to Adelaide ! And happy birthday to Websailor in advance ! Hope the three of you aren’t as averse to own birthdays as I am. I wish you all the best!
