ah such is the joy of life one gets to relax and its even better if you are a student

I was a student... then I graduated and got a job

I hope you like the job you are doing is it better not to be a student do you think? I mean is life better in your position or do you wish to reverse time?

Being a student means that I've got more money... but that I have less time to enjoy the things I can buy with it.

It also means there are more things I *have* to spend money on. Like tax. However, I would argue neither state is actually better, they're just different.

I'll think I will keep to being a student all the same young, free and in love with an Australian the other side of the world.

I was a lucky student.

Not as lucky as one of my friends though, who frequently did contract work in London during term time (despite us being at Nottingham) and earned absolutely pots of money.

what did your friend do may I ask? the thought of having lots of money is very appealing i must say

UNIX system administration.

crikey not something for me to dive into lol

He's very good at it too - the skills required are quite scary actually. I'm just a UNIX programmer; I have no idea how to set up a lot of the stuff that makes my workstation go!

just a thought but have you ever considered learning or your friend teaching you? however, if you are anything like me you'd just leave it to your friend to take over and pray that all goes right

Well I know enough to keep a Linux workstation running, but once you get into some of the networked stuff I'm completely lost - NFS is utterly outside my experience, for example, and networked printing stuff is also beyond me at the moment, as are firewalls and the like.

Of course, I could learn if I wanted to, and I may have to learn some of it because I program for network appliances so there is some crossover from time to time.

oh how I wish I had a scientific brain to talk to you about all this stuff ... unfortunately my mind is more directed towards creativity in the arts sorry

I think it is a good idea from what you have told me to invest in your friends expertise of technology and learn from them whilst having fun too

Creative stuff is good... I like to write (have you seen my stories in the Post?) although I do need more practice.

I'm currently very enthused about the new Get Writing site though.
