Well I wanted to join the police but they won't let me so I had to come up with something else interesting to do. It'd be good to be MaW!

Hmm, I seem to have missed out a sentence - the wouldn't be medicine, but 'cos I'm intending to do a PhD in Computer Science.
I can't join the police because my eyesight's really bad and at the moment I don't believe I can get it laser corrected. Maybe in four or five years I'll be able to get it done - the only good thing about the new eyesight requirements is that you only have to wait six weeks after having laser surgery before applying, rather than a year (or two years!)
I'm still cross that Thames Valley Police got rid of their delightful little loophole for contact lens wearers about four weeks before I was going to apply! If they'd waited, oh, two months, I could have been home and dry. Or at least through to the interview and fitness test.

I did think that was odd. I can imagine you doing something with computers. How long will that take you?
I'm sorry about the police thing. Maybe the army? I hear they'll take anyone.

Nah, if I wanted to join the army I'd have done so! Apparently for the TA at least there are no eyesight limits though, because they got done for discrimination. With any luck the police will have to follow suit. I mean, with contact lenses I cannot see how I am at any serious disadvantage compared to other officers, and I know officers who agree with me. It's very frustrating
But hopefully I can get my eyes lasered some time, and then I'll be in like a shot

The thought had occurred to me, but that's not the way I want to get in. Besides, I'm far too lazy and would rather let someone else do the work and then benefit from it!

Excellent! I'll see you there then
Let's all pray that the weather is good , the is plentiful (I don't think there's much danger of there not being plentiful to be honest) and we don't all get arrested .
