Hi MaW, You don't seem to have an "add to friends" thingie - is this because of your exalted status here?

I don't??? Are you sure you're looking in the right place? As far as I'm aware there's no reason why I shouldn't have one. Everybody should have one! I'll ask my sister to have a look and see if she gets it on hers - what skin do you use?

Ooops! It's nothing to do with skins (I use alabaster). Yours is the ONLY page on h2g2 (that I view regularly) for which the horizontal scroll bar is required to see the right hand edge. I misunderstood, and thought the right-hand box thingie wasn't there.

Yes, my sister's complained about that too, I'm going to fix it. It's just that I run an insanely high resolution, so it's not wide enough to cause that on my screen.

Nice for some : at home I have a VERY small desk, so a flat screen (LCD) was a necessity, and 1024 x 768 is the best it can manage. At work, things aren't much better.

1024x768's not all that bad really... I use 1280x1024 on my CRT though. I'd probably already have an LCD, but LCDs which can do that resolution are seriously uncheap.

In my old job, I used to run my 21" glass monitor at 1600 x (whatever the lesser number that goes with 1600 is). Oh the Good Olde Days!
What I'd really like is a monitor that could display a piece of A4 in portrait orientation life-size, with the resolution of a typical laser printer (600 dpi, I believe). I think that'd be something like 6400 x 4800. One day....

Oh, I doubt that'll be too long in coming - in terms of the technology being capable of it, that is. Whether it will actually happen is quite another thing entirely.
I'm far more excited about the prospect of OLED and LEP flat-panel displays.
