The Devil makes work for idle hands..

Well, you know what I said to you about doing one of those: do it because you're interested in that kind of work, not because you think it will get you a better job at the end of the day. It certainly helped me get *my* job, btI did mine bcause I honestly thought I wanted to be a research chemist. God knows, the world of academic computing could do with some eager young minds to liven it up. Still being taught in Algol 68, are you? That's what I learned back in '84!

No, we're being taught in Java . Can't avoid it these days, which is a shame, because it's .
But, my third-year project is in Haskell, so I shouldn't have to write much more Java! Woohoo!

Haskell? What the hell is that??
Academics tend to like these odd little languages, like KRC. I used to know someone who used to program in KRC and it almost drove him mad.

PS: if you want a chat about the whole process of doing a PhD I'd be glad to do so. You know where I live (about two miles down the road)

Yes, one of these days we'll have to do that. In the mean time, why not read my Edited Entry on Haskell, to be found at A587658 - it's very informative, even if I do say so myself. You might want to visit the website referenced from it as well, if you're really interested.

I read the entry. Well written and interesting. Unfortunately, languages like this tend to remain the preserve of academics.
BTW: you wouldn't happen to know of a good implementation of LOGO for the PC, would you? Now there's a nice little language. My kid is getting to the sort of age where she'd be intrigued by this sort of thing, even if she doesn't understand it.

Oh yes, I remember that for the Amiga!
I can't quite remember the implementation of it but there's an entry around here somewhere about teaching kids programming.

Ah yes, I remember many happy hours with LOGO...
