Not been to h2g2 for ages. Jumping back in feels so familiar and comfortable though...

Where was I? Ah yes, it's like pulling on a well-worn set of pants, or a familiar jumper, or some comfy, worn-at-the-knees trousers.
Not much to say really, just thought I'd put the sign up again that says 'I might actually be here'. If I don't come back often, people who know my offsite details, nag me, okay?

I don't know your 'offsite details', but it's good to see you back here! It's been a bit lonely in the FFFF.

I think it depends who has visited your home page in the past, and clicked on the link that informs you of activity there, when it happens.

Theoretically yes, practically no-ish.
See, I'm flying to Germany tomorrow, but I'm back on Monday evening.

Oh, and I forgot - for all the entries that I'm not wirting but should, GuidePost is still my indispensable tool!

Hi Vip.
Perhaps I should look at writing a new version of GuidePost. It's not even downloadable at the moment...
Hmm.

Glad to see you back MaW
I tried downloading GuidePost again last night meself, and got a 404. When I download a piece of software I usually keep the installer for a while, and if it turns out to be a really useful program I make myself a backup copy of the installer so that I don't have to download it again if I reinstall. But I've done much wiping, backing up, and swapping of hard drives in the past couple of weeks and I can't find the GuidePost installer anywhere

Yeah, the installer's not on my site anymore. I'm not even sure where it is on my own PC these days... I should probably keep it available, I'll try and find it and put it back and update the link from my Space.
I think I'll definitely have to write a new version though. Trouble is, I've done so much stuff on Linux since then that I'm not really a Windows developer at all. I think I'll have to decide on some solution that's at least vaguely portable to Windows and try and kill several birds with one stone. I might even be able to make it run on a Mac as well...

I've got a copy of the installer here if you need it
Felonious Monk and a few others are still working on DuideDog - no idea of when it'll be ready for release. I don't know how many people will want to (or be able to) use it though since it requires the Microsoft .net framework.

Well, I believe the objectives of GuideDog are different anyway - I do not intend to write a WYSIWYG editor at any point. They're quite capable of doing that, I'm sure, and there's no point in direct competition.
So my intent is currently to bring something equivalent to GuidePost's functionality up and running on a codebase I can actually maintain these days. I'll probably go for gtkmm, as I'm very familiar with it and it also works on Windows these days.
No promises on time though.
