Just doing laps of the pool is incredibly boring. At least with the club there is normally something going on underwater to watch
I know I should have gone to see them really but it would have involved a trip out from the city and back in again for an hour or two visit. Not worth it I thought.
To use a very cliched generic northern expression, there's nowt so queer as folk.

I hope you enjoyed your swim...
have an absolutely fantastic weekend, enjoy the family and don't get too drunk!
big to arthur, so he doesn't feel left out!

Yeah, it was good; i met some nice people, they had some good speakers, made me realise how much we don't do for our postgrads and if they ever decided to get themselves informed, they'd probably sue the pants off us.
how about you - how was the wedding?
Hot Shots II
Solsbury Posted Aug 14, 2001
Most places don't do much for postgrads not very well
The wedding was good. Much better than expected!

weegie Posted Aug 14, 2001
oh, the wedding sounds intriguing ... tell me more...
I take it you didn't get your shite together to go see U2 at the weekend?
Hot Shots II
Solsbury Posted Aug 14, 2001
Didn't see U2, went to a wedding!
It was a family thing and I wasn't sure how it'd turn out - all would depend on who went from the family. Unfortuantely not much of the extended family (aunts, uncles, cousins) turned up. Would have been nice to see them. Still had a good time so not bothered.

Alright, chill Winston.... i thought they were playing a couple of dates over the weekend....
ah families.... its true what you say, you can't chose 'em, but sometimes these things have a habit of being turning out fun. i thin the last one i went to was my granny's funeral, and that turned out to be a bit of a laff, especially when my grandpa's trousers fell down outside the reception. was the bride beautiful? and all the adjectives associated with wedding applied to it?
kinda excited, going through to edinburgh (boo hiss) to see starsailor (hurrah, i think)

I think the only U2 date I could have done would have been the saturday which clashed I got a late train up on friday night (arrived at about 1:45am) and then had to get back here on sunday.
The bride looked lovely, the groom was funny though, every so often he'd get up on stage grab the mike from the DJ and tell everyone to get up and dance cos he'd just got married, that and the proclamations of love for his wife, very sweet
I think there is some talk of a few people meeting up for a beer or two in Edinburgh next week.
When is the Starsailor gig?

weegie Posted Aug 14, 2001
Ah Edinburgh, during the festival..... i couldn't think of anything worse, i'd rather wire my tits up to a battery
the usual west-east divide and a break-up (my ex is from edinburgh) has produced a pathological dislike for the capitol (oh that and its crap!!!!!) i'm really not looking forward to going there tonight!
ah (slight head bobble to the side) that's nice, so were you up tripping the light fantastic? shakin' your little booty on the dance floor?
Starsailor's tonight and turin brakes is thursday. i'm disappointed i won't be able to see the avalanches though, ah what ya gonnae dae eh?

... though I'm sure there are people who would like that
I didn't get up and dance. I almost did but I nicly tapped my foot and nodded my head to the music.
I'm sure you'll cope with not seeing the avalanches.
Got a couple of cds at the weekend. singles from Mo Solid Gold (Safe From Harm) and Zero 7 (Destiny). I'm really impressed with the Mo Solid Gold one, a cover of a Massive Attack tune.

>> ... though I'm sure there are people who would like that
what being wired to a battery or going to edinburgh during the festival? You have to guess which i'd prefer
ah i'm disappointed that you weren't up boogie-ing. i'm an absolutley terrible dancer, i'm okay up to the point i realise i'm dancing, then i go 'oh shite... i'm dancing'; loose the rhythm and slope off the dance-floor in shame, but up until then i'm john travolta (or the female equivalent? - who would that be?)
i'm sure i can cope with the disappointment of not seeing the avalanches, if they're any good, they'll be playing again. i feel as though i haven't bought a new lp for ages, and i don't know if there's going to be any for a while, the new groove armada cd's out sometime next month and when are pulp releasing theirs?
mo solid gold? i like their last one, can't remember what it was, but i think the video had a sofa in it! zero 7 are they dancey, as in judge jules kinda dancey? i think i heard them on saturday while i was avoiding the NPC's AGM - although they have the funniest minutes i have ever read - a quick example, at the end of their AGM last year they:
"the meeting closed and everyone then went to Pizza Express, whereupon there much speculation as to what happened when Alex Lewis disappeared with a young waiter for 14 minutes."

What you describe is what normally happens to me as well
I think I saw Mo Solid Gold supporting Clint Boon one time. I'm really impressed with the tune and may go and get the album if it's similar, all funked up.
The Zero 7 is more kind of like Air, chill out rather than Judge Jules dancey. There may be some mixes that are more like that.
Sounds like an interesting kind of meeting

I think we need to celebrate the crappness of our dancing - there should be a dancing smiley.
if we ever meet up, we're going dancing!
all i know about them is their lead singer's black and looks a bit like her out of skunk anansie!
I've just checked out your piccies from the spring onion meet .... looks like fun, just so as i have the right image of you - you're phil yeah, with the goatee in spring onion 2001, without in the summer 2001 (labelled 'other person')? you'll just have to imagine me as cameron diaz (can you be done under the trades description act? )

Solsbury Posted Aug 14, 2001
I am Phil, but none of my pics show me in them (well the spring onion ones anyway).
Other Spring Onion pics do show me (see the user page of Croz or Metal Chicken).
I'm in one of the pictures in the second lot- summer 2001 - (the 19th one down) which shows me and Coelacanth.
Cameron Diaz....

right....just wanted to make sure i had the right fantasy ... sorry picture in my head!
in the picture on metal chicken's page, you look a wee bit worst for ware.
no, looking at the pictures there's one labelled Phil and i was going comment on how much weight you'd put on (no fat b*****d's jibe)
the attitude of cameron diaz with the body of hattie jacques!

Solsbury Posted Aug 14, 2001
That picture of Orcus and Phil, the label should be the other way round. Orcus is the one with the goatee and Phil is his missus.
I think I might have been a bit worse for wear at that point. Still was jolly good fun
Hot Shots II
weegie Posted Aug 14, 2001
ahhhhhh..... not that i was calling Orcus a fat b*****d, you know. but you must admit if it were you, you'd have put on a remarkable amount of weight (i'm sure your doctors would be pleased though!)
Can decide if i want to hang around here till its time to get a bus through to auld reekie, or go home for a very, very, very quick smoke?
