... it's Valentine's Day.. Hubby bought me a bouquet of mixed flowers

Then took me to the hospital to see the Gynae Consultant

It has been a very strange day for him as it has been his 50th Birthday

Okay, my bits and pieces were checked and some procedure is required in June, but nothing too alarming



The day turns stranger:-

After making my appointment to attend for pre-op tests, we came out and Hubby's mobile had a missed message from his youngest sister.

Today, Hubby's Mum attended a Consultant herself. Over 25 years ago, she battled bowel cancer and won. A couple of months ago, she had a biopsy on her bladder and again cancer was found. A month later, the tumour returned and was again removed.

Recently, she has been complaining about not being able to walk as her left hip was hurting her, so she had x-rays and last week she had a further scan on her hip.

Today, the family have been told she has got secondary cancer in her bones, it is currently spreading down to her left knee. It seems she has weeks, or maybe a few months, but most certainly, she will not see next Christmas. Mum in law is unaware, just yet, how serious things are this time (she may know, but hasn't yet been told) radio therapy is being organised to ease her pain and the McMillan Nurse will be contacting her fairly soon, so I think she will be told before that happens.

Hubby has been a bit shell shocked, unable to take in all the facts.



Stranger still:

Tonight his youngest sister phoned us again, to let us know she is pregnant and the baby is due in September. This is a great shock to us all, as this lady had breast cancer 2 years ago and was told the treatment would make her infertile. She had wanted to keep things a little quiet for a bit longer, but after today's news, felt we all needed something to look forward to.

And I thought I was having a strange day. I just watched my daughter get married over a webcam, by Elvis.

It's a weird and wonderful world that we live in, my dear. So sorry about your MIL. If I ever win the lottery I will donate the lot to cancer charities and cancer research. Just save a _little_ bit so I can to Vegas and marry Elvis.

Wow lil, what a day. So sorry to hear about the MIL, she may choose to ignore her prognosis if this makes it easier for her. It is such devastating news, I can remember the day my own mother was told - like it was yesterday. You'll just all have to rally round and make the best of what time you have together.

Great news about the baby - the circle of life eh! Hope everything goes well there.

Hi lil, long time no chat..I was going to post something humourous when I saw the thread title. But after reading your posting, it brought me back down to Earth with a thud.

But life is odd in many ways..Sadness, Grief, Happiness,Joy all in one day.

I think I was fortunate in many ways, not seeing either of my parents in their latter years before they passed away. So my memories of Mum and Dad are of them in good health, even though they were long divorced. I see them as they were when I was younger, and I can still here Mum singing and Dad whistling all sorts of tunes...

Oh Hell, the memories just flood in right now...

Wow, you will certainly remember this Valentines Day! Yes, surreal "circle of life" stuff. Maybe one of the few non commercial positive aspects of valentines day is to remind us all that life can be sadly short, so "love the one you're with" etc.

Congratulations and sympathies are a very difficult thing to offer in the same sentance, but you have both from me here.

The tough thing with sad news like that is that, very often, it makes us think about our own mortality. And even if it doesn't, I know (from personal experience) how hard it can be to love someone and not really be able to help them. I'm sorry for your whole family.

What a strange (happy and sad) birthday that must've been for your hubby.

All I have to offer right now areand, but I am happy that your family has each other to lean on.
