even putting pc back to earlier stage, did not cure it, suspect some type of spy/adware/trojan type thing(long story). Wiped and re installed windows, seems ok, odd little hiccup while everything put back or renewed, like explorer 7

Terri, there is a add on thing for Mozilla, that will save all Firefox settings and bookmarks and will save all Thunderbird settings/emails and addresses, I can send it to you, if you want ??(I think it should email ok/size wise)

Prof, there is a terrific free program called AVG. Just download it and it wiil keep all sorts of nasties out of your computer.
Same as AD Aware, and SpyBot, great as well, and free to download. I use Norton as my main anti-virus program and keep these other ones quietly running in the background. Have no probs whatsoever...

thanks DB, but I'd run all my anti stuff etc, plus another load off the web, nothing could find anything, but I think the fault was my "xoftspy" every scan, it found 4/5 (the same ones)I think it must have had a glitch in the programming, so I ditched it, but it left the things on somewhere

Prof, but do you mean that xsoftspy found the bug, or that the bug was in xsoftspy?

xoftspy kept finding 4 with the same type numbers, as "abb34f2uu" etc and a kazaa/gator set up, but nothing showed with any other program used

I have a sneaky feeling that xsoftspy itself has a glitch and the "bugs" may be fakes. Is your computer running OK at the moment, cos if it is then you haven't got a problem.

seems ok now DB, me and son thought the same, a couple of year ago(I think) spybot s & d had a glitch and did the same, kept finding one, it turned out it was in the programming and they had to bring another version out

You've lost me totally. But i now have the AVG thingy & it says i am totally pure & uninfected; which of course we all knew.I am pure as the driven snow. Why anyone would attempt to drive snow is probably connected to sledges & hammers. Blame Norse gods i reckon (Fjôrd Prefect maybe,)

However, bloody Thunderbird is still resisting; i've even joined a Thunderbird forum to whinge directly.
