Elsewhere, you have explained. I am sorry for the losses of the 'neighbor', and the concerns it has caused you and your family. I do hope all can be resolved, and ALL persons can rest peacefully.

Malabarista read my post before posting a stupid retort. I said one of, not the. Again with Child abuse, rape et al it is the emotional damage caused that makes it so horrific. Also the dead cannot defend them selves or identify the offenders which makes them an easier target than, say, the local corner shop.

If there were just a few more clues...
;maybe they will present themselves in time.

Sorry, TB - but I didn't see that as a "retort" - I was seriously inquiring about your stance on this.

no, just a bad waiter Not evil, per se...
Jut for the record, I do not condone grave robbery. But maybe they were just archeologists, a few hundred years too early?

Jabberwock Posted Apr 29, 2006
Malabrista, Falsename is right. Because grave robbing is one of the worst crimes it doesn't mean that child abuse isn't also one of the worst crimes...and how does it help this situation by setting up a fledgling league table of crimes?
The situation is horrible and must be worrying.

That was never my intent - of course it's horrible!
Just last week, the neighbour's child came and pulled all the flowers from where I buried my cat. I was devastaded. And this must be a thousand times worse.

Malabarista - Thanks for your reply. I'm so sorry to hear about the flowers from your cat's grave.

Okay, first of all, I agree it's a horrible thing to do, and hurts the family's feelings, but just to play Devil's Advocate here (and please don't all hit me at once, I don't condone it!)...
He's dead. Does he really need pretty little crystal things? Do the dead children need those toys placed on their graves? They can't play with them anymore.
Why do we hang on to little souvenirs like those? Keeping the grave clean and the plants around it groomed is one thing - it shows us that we haven't forgotten, that we still care. But why do we feel the need to leave these little 'offerings' for someone who can no longer even see them?

People do that to make themselves feel better. The dead person is dead, granted, and probably can't appreciate it very much, but for someone who's lost a loved one something like leaving a toy at a childs grave or giving a little give can soften the blow and make the sense of loss go away. It's a way of keeping the person in their lives and thoughts, and sometimes people aren't ready to let go.

Lil , that is so sad and know how you must feel, my wifes mum was buried 4 weeks ago, and we have been up there many a time, but the last time we went which was 2 days ago there was broken beer bottles and fag packets over my wifes mums grave and the person next to her, heartless b*stards
Lady Pennywhistle, have you ever lost anybody really close to you

Lil, I'm so sorry.
Everyone has different ways of grieving- for some, it's enough to keep the graves clean and make sure the cemetary is well tended. For others, they keep something that belonged to the deceased close to them at all times. I know people who lost buddies in Vietnam who will go visit the wall with two cans of beer once a year. They'll open both, and drink one- they're having a beer with their buddy. We go and put a wreath on my grandpa's grave several times a year, and I have his Yellow Canary from the coal mine. If that was ever taken from me, I'd probably want to go sort out the thief with my rock hammer, if I could find him.
The point is, everyone has different ways of grieving, and it's especially fresh if you'd just lost someone unexpectedly, and especially painful if they were young. No one should take something from a grave without leaving something in return unless it's just to keep the area clean.
