Actual Quote

"I think it's important neighbours become more nosey. People are not as nosey these days as they once were, but it would help if more of us kept an eye out for each other."

Have brought the guide entries I've been working on home and will hopefully have them finished soon.

Something in the paper

I was idly flicking through my local paper on my lunch break when I happen to read a report about a Press Conference with the Police Chief for the area. This caught my eye. The first parts spot on, seconds more paraphrasing. I'll check tomorrow for the exact quote.

"People aren't as nosy as they used to be. If they were more nosy there would be less crime."

Well how about that? The solution to society's problems in a nut shell or lazy excuse? I'm still undecided.

Looking: Lonely Planet's guide to Europe (should come in very handy)
Listening: Lots of early Air (Moon Safari, Premiers Symptomes). Beautiful.

Of the moment

Apparently (according to the adverts), the new Argos catalogue has 4000 new items for sale. On the front of the old one it proclaimed '3000 New Items!'

That's not a catalogue. That's a doorstop.

Is it just me or is publication of the 'Which' report about plastic surgery just a teensy-bit coincidental with all these adverts for Sky One’s new show ‘Nip-Tuck’?

Mild Frustration

I had been writing some stuff at work (anything to fill the time) over the last couple of days only to now find that floppy disk I've been using has packed in a now refusing to work on my home computer. Bugger.

One of the piece's 'Ignorance makes blissful viewing' might even by a guide entry with a bit of re-writing. It's about 'discovering' films, channel surfing late at night and discovering something unique that grabs you and won't let go until the finish. I'll hopefully get it finished in the next few days, work (or lack of) permitting.

There's also a painting I'm hoping to have finished by the end of this week. It was supposed to be for a competition but I just can't see it being finished in time. Shame, as I think it's going quite well at the moment

Watching: Well, I am looking at Planetary: The Fourth Man, which arrived today with crippled spine. Thank you Amazon.
Listening: Panthalassa - Miles Davies and Bill Laswell, which also arrived but in a much better state (not damaged).
Tasting: Some casserole concoction my Mum was trying out before. Considering that was half a hour ago, that's probably not a good thing.

Tomb Raider Conundrum

I’m surprised yesterday’s journal entry turned up. Anyway, here’s today’s.

I’ve always wondering about this.

Here's a quote from a Q&A with Simon West I read around the time of Tomb Raider's cinema release in the U.K (it's from PSW Magazine issue 19, August 2001)

"What will Videogame fans get out of this film?

We've put coded stuff throughout the story for the gamers and any sort of sad anoraks that want to pick it apart. Nothing in the film is not thought about. Anything you read in the background or anything on a screen, everything has been worked that you can watch it five times and try and crack [the codes]. Everything has significance. There's no symbol, letter or number or anything in the film that isn't entirely worked out for a reason. It's not arbitrary. For instance, there is definitely something about the Aston Martin in the movie that people need to watch closely and work out what it is."

I’ve never found out what he was talking about. Seeing the film once was enough but I’ve always been curious if the relevant information was ‘out-there’.
