We came, we saw, we drank a LOT of cocktails...

to start the evening, a pint or two of Don't Panic... fabulous company, old friends, new friends, inflatable animals...
Special thanks to J'au-æmne Princess of Darkness and me[Andy]g for helping our team reach the unenviable score of 1 (or 2, by our calculations) in the quiz, making us the Losers. The prize was well worth our inability to answer any questions though.
And of course, it wouldn't be an h2g2 meet without all the and from old friends, new friends, and complete strangers who wondered what we were doing there.

On Losing A Limb

You get so used to these things that it doesn't even occur to consider how much you would miss them until they are cut off.
I have been without an internet connection since Sunday morning at least; it probably went on Saturday. The ISP say the replacement equipment will be here in 3-5 days. Thats's assuming that is where the fault lies anyway.
It couldn't have happened at a worse time. I was able to go into 'the office' today to send the essential emails that should have gone last night, but now I'm stuck checking for replies on my wholly inadequate mobile phone. Typing this is certainly a challenge!
So, being without internet & the means to easily check email, my bank balance, do online shopping or any one of a hundred other thi gs I have learnt to take for granted with an 'always on' connection, I thought I would cook up that recipe I'd been meaning to try. Then I remembered where the recipe was - here on h2g2!

The day will be etched in my memory as the day I realised I was living in the world of the sci-fi books I read as a child. A world I thought I would never see.
CCTV, erosion of freedom of speech, subjugation of rights, guilty until proven innocent... all these things came on so slowly over the last few decades that we can be forgiven for blythely going along with it. The 'terrorist threat' will make us bow our heads meekly and accept the protection of the One True Government who love us and only seek our best interests in defending us from 'terrorists' and 'copyright infringers', who mean us harm. The law eroding our freedoms is for our protection. We know not what we do.

Ok Computer
Posted Jan 23, 2012
...said I. Actually, it was more like okay, computer. Having clicked on computer, I clicked on my usb stick. Then, for some reason, I started listening to Radiohead.
Now I should actually copy the files to my usb stick and get on with some other stuff, preferably not on the computer.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
