I agree... You know what, we can send each other quite cool smileys
but we could see if we could work out how to send each other other pictures as well, like drinks, chocolate etc.... It would be quite an improvement, but how would you do an ascii picture of a pint? |_| ?

What's a frame relay? I really want to know! Ever since I saw the local telephone exchange had 'FRAME RELAY SAFTEY' on the door then I wanted to know! Please send to my researcher http://www.h2g2.com/u96596 !

Maybe we should contact the guys at bluemountain.com or yahoo...or other computer junkies who could trace us some nice meals. You could send a complete menu to someone, with best wishes, etc.

Frame Relay is a telephone service that's been around for quite a while (predating ISDN and ADSL). It provides a synchronous link from one point to another, at speeds from 56K to T1 (1M, roughly). It's not a dialup service: the two ends are permanently connected. The speed never varies (that's what makes it synchronous). So, what it boils down to is that 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, there's a 56K stream going from me to my ISP and back. At the far end, the ISP hooks it up to the rest of the internet. Essentially, a wire from the phone company comes into a modem hung inside my house and that connects to a router which puts it on to my net.
Now, why your telco had that on the door I have no idea...

I may be addicted to H2G2, but certainly not to spam.
Indeed, I'm not even *allowed* to eat spam these days.
So, perhaps we can find a gentle way to suggest that this isn't in accordance with the way we'd like H2G2 culture to grow.
Bastinado springs to mind.

Bluebottle Posted Nov 10, 1999
Don't worry - I'm not particularly computer literate - I'm just reasonable at doing the little I know.
I try and adapt things to doing simple things in new ways, doesn't always work
I better shut up before people start thinking I'm pig headed.
(Too late!)
