A great way of getting involved in the comunity here is by checking out <./>Askh2g2</.>
Both <./>ThePost</.> [our weekly 'newspaper'], and the <./>frontpage</.> are great ways of keeping tabs on what is going on in the community of h2g2 in general. Subscribing to the <./>Announcements</.>page is also another way of knowing what's going on.


The 'Search h2g2' button is there so you can find guide entries by other Reseachers on a myriad of things. If there isn't one on something you know about or are interested in researching you may like to check out the Writing-Guidelines and set about creating one of your own

I'm becoming increasingly bewildered by this GuideML stuff
what would be the best way to learn how to for someone who knows nothing (almost) about HTML, etc?

A690518 has a helpful and simply explaination of how to use GuideML...

Looking at how other people have created there personal space is also a good way to learn <./>TestUserPage206500</.> shows you what the GuideML for my space is like... Just replace the 'U' in the address bar for any personal space with 'TestUserPage' and for guide entries replace the 'A' with 'Test'...

Also by typing 'GuideML' in the search h2g2 device you can find help pages on specific aspects of the mark up language...

Is it possible to add tour own pictures? The picture library probably doesn't have a picture of, say, a roll of army green duct tape (I looked)

It's against the rules to have a picture pof anything that hasn't been blobbed. Sorry, but there are good reasons for this... such as it's a family site so we can't have just anything put up and copyright issues. And so on.

What's "blobbed"?

All the images on h2g2 are called blobs... If a picture be it jpg, gif or whatever... is added to the site it has to be 'blobbed' to be acceptable content...
