We stood and watched meercats fo ages when we were in florida. They were behind glass, obviously, but seemed completely oblivious to everyone looking on!!!They are wonderful creatures, but then we saw so many other things that we never thought we'd actually see.
The white tigers were adorable!!!

Hi, Animal and everyone,
The badger came right on cue last night, just three or four minutes before 10.40pm. We are waiting to see if he gets earlier each night as the nights draw in, or whether he sticks to the same time.
Reduced the food this time and it all went first time! It still went down the step backwards - so funny Our lighting is getting sorted, and we had a much better view last night as lights clearly don't bother him. Fox came too.
Racing through chores, phone calls, emails etc. this morning as the Badger foood has arrived, and the about them. I am dying to read it, so I must crack on

TV wildlife programs, possibly they might pay to set camera's up for night watching etc

Six nights in a row now and he clearly likes what's on offer. I shall continue feeding but reduce it as the weather gets cooler and damper, as they can find more natural food then.
The fox came and took his medicine like "a good 'un" and is actually looking a lot better. Two came last night. Seagulls overhead this morning and an owl last night! Swifts have gone though.
My little garden has become so interesting, and knowing the neighbours don't have a clue is quite funny. I'm learning more about badgers, and have now ordered an urban fox book.
At the moment there are just not enough hours in the day.
I'm away to my bed I'm exhausted

But of course who else would be
Eighth night for the badger I hope. I watched him(her?) for half an hour last night, but must get some proper lights fixed up. It is such a ghostly creature - now you see him, now you don't - did we, didn't we? But when you do there is no doubt and you are not seeing
Must sort a camera out too. Not enough hours in the day, and not enough money in the bank for this lark
You ?

"As ye sow so shall ye reap" comes to mind
Instead of being we have been getting goggle eyed looking for shapes in the night. Left the outside light on last night, and both the badger and the fox arrived together.
The fox hovers in the background just like on the Nature programmes. I am being plagued with slugs, and though I love nature there are two things I can't stomach, slugs and rats!!
I am afraid they had a dose of PHM's beer last night as they were crawling everywhere. Waste of good beer, I hear you say, and I totally agree, so shall be off to the off licence to get some cheap stuff tomorrow.
You can't really go in and say what's your cheapest, nastiest beer can you?
Hope you are feeling better soon, unless of course you enjoy being hungover?

place a jar in to the ground so that the top is just level with the earth and then fill about a third with cheap ale, the slugs go swimming and err! when full, just tip out at bottom of garden for birds etc and start again

I am pretty sure badgers are partial to a slug or three, so the problem may get sorted...though what a badger might do to your garden doesn't bear thinking about!
I had my own moment last night; well, about 4am actually. There is a meteorite shower happening right now & me & skanky-wooh miraculously managed to use technology at its best, synchronise our movements & watch shooting stars together, despite him being in Devon & me in France! Wonderful. DNA would be so proud, maybe he was one of thoses; he probably thought "hey, i fancy a quickacross the sky to see what those hootoo lot are up to"

Mornin Sailor,
Sounds like you've got yourself a positive menagarie in your garden. We had an interesting visitor. We were sat watching the cricket when we heard a bird hit a window, sad but we get two or three a year.
This casualty, however, was being pursued by a female sparrowhawk who, once the poor young sparrow was on the ground, dead, ignored it and took up a perch on the garden wall for about five minutes before moving to sit above the seed feeders. She stayed there for a while before departing.
On Sunday we saw her stoop onto some ground prey behind a bush so we couldn't see if she'd been successful. Looks like we might have a resident with attitude. Poor old song birds, no peace, killer cats below and hungry hawks above.

My dear Websailor
Although I have not taken part I love reading this thread.
I am interested though in both the badger and the fox.
I do not know if youbave heard about the badgers being responsible for TB in cows. ( A hypothesis which I foind absolutely astounding!!)
Does the fox not attack the badger?
You must have a wonderfully protective garden.
myst
Have a good day/
Christiane.
