Memories of times past. tries not to think how nice life was then
Sun. 3rd Feb. 08
Weather: Dry, cold and very windy.
New neighbour put the fence panel back in today and promised to sort it! Such a relief.
Eight blackbirds, four blue s and one great
greeted me along with a robin this morning. Before long the food was disappearing under an onslaught from wood pigeons, magpies, chaffinches, collared doves, dunnocks and squirrels.
The tables were cleared by a jay, blackbirds, magpies, long tailed tits and more wood pigeons, and the feeder levels dropped quickly, eaten by bullfinches, one goldfinch, one coal tit and one robin.
The peanut cakes were left largely to the woodpecker at 8.45, 10am, 1.55am and 3.30pm with starlings coming in between. A late visit from the long tailed tits saw the last of the biscuit crumbs go . Must top up peanut feeders tomorrow.
I’ve had a busy day so not much time for bird watching except mealtimes

Why is it that if I don't put it on the written list, I well forget it - what happened to the
digestive biscuits?

You too, eh? The shopping list is known as *Fb's memory* in this household
A propos of nothing much, I met Sean Connery at Dumfries railway station Well, when I say *met*, he walked past me and asked when the London train was due . He was very tall. And broad. And twinkly-eyed.

got work to do

I just love to see men, walking round supermarkets with a listI think to myself don't they know what they eat in the house regular

Prof - speaking as one of those men, it's a case of we're *given* the list.
If I bring home something that's not on it, "We didn't need that"
If I miss something that *is* on it, it's "We needed that!"
And if I *don't* get something that *isn't* on it, it's "Didn't you know we needed that?"
So following the list is VERY important!!

Yay!!!
I saw my first Bullfinch today, infact one male and two females. While not a rare bird they aren't common around here. I thought I saw them outside the perimiter of local bird sanctuary for a second earlier but got a really good fairly close view later for a comparatively long time.
Although it is great in the wildlife sanctuary where I saw Bulfinches, Snipe, Spoonbill Ducks and other assorted wonderful birds today, on the way home in a not particularly wonderful local park across road I saw, today, the Green Woodpeckers again, 3 Goldfinches, Greenfinch, Chaffinch, Fieldfare/Red wing and even a not too common Song thrush all within around 10 mins.
The park is really just a place for walking dogs but there is one fairly high hedge that has all those birds and even Long Tail Tits. There must be something about the hedge that suits the birds, despite all the dogs and occasional yobs,

I was wondering what people think is the meanest and nastiest looking bird?
For me it is easily a surprising but easy winner, the Greenfinch. Its flatish head, massive beak, dark patch around a dark eye and scowling, don't look at me, I'm 'ard scowl are frightening at times!
