I like your Space.

I also try not to emulate students. I handed in my coursework a day early (though I was ready a few before), I hate clubs and loud music, and I'd far rather a have a quiet drink in the back of a pub garden, watching the cricket.

Anime and FF good too. Am pissed off because my discs from VIII have been scratched. smiley - wah

Oh, hi.smiley - cheers

Commiserations regarding the discs.smiley - cheerup

Sorry about the delay in replying; someone just came to borrow some papers and ask for my views on political freedom. I agree fullysmiley - ok about the clubs and loud music; and if you're into FF, you may be interested in LeonardQuirm's (U715107) efforts to improve the Guide's covrage.

Thanks for dropping by.smiley - smiley

Ah, I come and talk to you, and then forget to reply.

*slaps wrist*

Good news on the FF VIII front- I relented and bought myself a brand new copy. smiley - winkeye

Now political freedom seems like far too messy a business for me to get into. So many opinions, so much stuff. We can vote for who we want. Yeah, yeah. Democracy *so* doesn't work. What you vote for is there simply to win an election. Screw whether it's right or not.

I think that we should vote someone in to power who really doesn't want to be there, but will do what they think is right for the good of the people. Anyone who wants to be in power automatically becomes the one person that should never be allowed it. The general public simply cannot know enough to make their own decisions!

So, as I understand this, you want people who cannot know enough to make their own decisions to vote for the unwilling power-wielder. Which would appear to involve making a decision.

Actually, now I re read, no, I don't want that. I want people not to vote. There should be a chain of command, with people trained from birth to lead the country. No votes, no choice. But not lumbered with a fool either.

There is no real way to solve the problem. As that thread so rightly points out, few people care enough to vote, and so many don't think that it's worth it. 'They're all as bad as each other.' What have we got? A party that no one trusts, a party that seems to have fallen apart (and nobody really trusts), and another that hasn't been in power since the war.

I'm no good at thinking what would be better. I will be voting on the 10th. smiley - smiley

Now I feel really secure.

Incidentally, have you ever read Plato's Republic? Your chain of command suggestion sounds somewhat like his.

It's on my list, after the rest of the Saga of the Exiles byt Julian May, and Utopia. I want to be sure of getting a good translation though. Any hints on that front?

I'm afraid not; to judge the translation one would have to know Ancient Greek, which I don't. smiley - sorry

It's in Greek? Ah, I thought it was in Latin, like Utopia. I have so much to learn! smiley - smiley

"'Allo, 'Allo, what's going on here?"

Sorry, it's in my club description...

Anyway, hi Vip, I'm the LQ mentioned earlier...(bet you'd never have guessed!) Feel free to pop by my space and help out however you can. And I would like to join the group of not fitting into groups - I have a tendancy to get work done on time (excepting the FF guides on here...), and don't like punk/rock/metal/whatever-the-drated-genre-they-want-to-call-it my friends like. Oh well.

As for the "training from birth" - possibly a little like a monarchy, except not necessarily inbred hereditary systems?

Alternatively, the DA idea - "whoever is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed the job"...but this one I agree with.

It was the reference to training from birth that led me to bring up the Republic, which expands on the idea somewhat.

As for the group you mentioned, were you thinking of these people? A1132345

As regards the getting-work-done-on-time thing, don't worry; progress on the FF7 Entry hasn't exactly been swift either. (Almost done now!)

Nah, not really from the looks of things - Goths are still the most ironic group of people there are; "we're all individuals" meaning they all end up dressing and looking nearly identical.
What I said was merely supposed to be refering to you two and being an ironic comment in itself. I had no knowledge of a group like that on here (though I should have guessed!) and they don't look like they're like me either.

I've read your FFVII article; shall be checking up the links and commenting in the appropriate places shortly. Looks good though, and a worrying trend to try and copy...
Congrats on getting it up; I'll follow some time - although this week and the first half of next I'm pretty busy with 11 exams spread over 7 days (including Biology this afternoon)

Dunno if you noticed; I've been putting up some details of the specific games on the hub page, which will hopefully deal with the "evolution" thing as well, though I'm not too sure. See what you think when you have time.

I'm glad to hear you weren't thinking of those people. (Not that I've anything against them.) I'll check the hub Entry shortly.
