Hi, I thought it might be helpful if I made a few observations about your ACE greeting...
It's good.
However...
Rather than saying "I'm Spacecadet, or spacey, or SC, or Jack, or thing if you like!" which is friendly and light-hearted which is good... it is quite long and may with worth simplifying.
Where you say, "I'm an ACE (Assistant Community Editor) and I'll attempt to answer any questions you have." I would use the opportunity to link to the Ace homepage <. />ACE</ .> [without the spaces].
You say "Smileys and other wonderful stuff. Actually I'm on a month trial so I have to make a good impression
Click on the smiley face to see more of the little fellas!" The first sentence doesn't make any sense... it's best not to confuse a New Researcher. I would either mention you're and trial ACE in the first instance or not at all, certainly not twice as you have! And don't say you have to make a good impression!smiley - ok

It's fine to use template for greeting, but remember to make sure you have checked it's spelling and grammar and that you personalise it to each New Researcher as much as possible.
