h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Now that it is August the 18th, 2004, I finally feel safe in expressing something which has had me worried for years...

I was not supposed to survive to my 24th birthday.

Many years ago I met a psychic thorugh some social event, who for reasons which elude me but are probably my own fault, told me that a) I was going to die before I turned 24, though I would save someone else's life in the process. And b) My first neice would be called Danika.

I had forgotten about it completely until after my sister became pregnant; She still thinks I was crying tears of joy when she announced the girl's name would be Danika Ruth.

In the thirteen years since then I've undulated between lost abandon to my fate, and adament denial that if I ignored it I could repulse the effects of the prophecy. Over the last month or so it's been almost a calming influence on my life; I'd imagined a situation like a service-station robbery where I became a martyrd hero, or some such. But previously it had caused severe trauma; personal relationships became strained and the effects were long-reaching. Ambrese may remember a discussion about this.

But now, I'm twenty four. My birthday was yesterday. My future is now.

Somehow I feel like I should feel like I've won, but not a heck of a lot has changed. Perhaps over time I can accept this new existance.

No... you wouldn't; there wouldn't be many people I care about who would know. Even if the ones who heard about it told everyone else they thought knew me, and they told everyone else they thought knew me... that would still only cover about half the people I care about.

If I ever disappear, I'm sorry. Not that I expect to, or anything.

i think i'm going ot leave a note somewhere like a kind of will... tellling someone to post somehting here saying what happened... or something...

About time I updated it, anyway...

sometimes i feel like its a little morbid for be to be making a will at 17, but whatever. its jsut practical. and its not a legal one just like a little note to my parents...

Yeah I agree, it's a heck of a lot easier than leaving people to sort out what to do with your stuff after it's too late to ask...
Besides, if you don't make a will there's no guarantee you'll be buried how and where you want to...

i had a very odd dream the other night and you were in it... it was very dark and you were doing wiring in my garage, and then you turned into someone i havent seen in ages... very very if you ask me...

no... actually it was quite a while ago.

that sounds a like a lot of volts... i dont know much about things like that. did you have to go to the hospital?

"I was unharmed, acually it was a charge of somewhere between 150KV and 75KV left in the wiring of an Xray generator.

I only hit my head while jumping against the ceiling. I landed on top of the electronics cabinet muttering at the teacher who made the defect. "

oooh... that sounds very dangerous. i'm gald you're ok!

an xray generator... hmm... perhaps we could make some sort of sci-fi story about this... with a lot of comedy thrown in, of course...
