DVD

Ooooh! DVD is *so* good. After hours tonight in the bar we decided to try out the new DVD player. Big screen TV, surround sound and a DVD player. In a bar. It doesn't get much better than that.

South Park the movie (our first test) was hilarious. Some might level accusations of it being full of toilet humour and being deeply puerile. All I can say to that is, "Hey Screw You Uncle-Fu..." Sorry, my innocent little mind has been corrupted by this evil Canadian filth.

Second film of thenight was 'The Matrix'. Goddamn! Goddamn, goddamn, goddamn. This is such a cool film. And having our own mini-cinema in which to watch it. With beer. And no smokng restrictions. Oh! I thought I'd died and gone to heaven.

The only problem with the Matrix is that afterwards you think to yourself, "Maybe if I believe enough then I can do that." Or at least I think that, I could just be unusual. In fact I probably am, but anyway. I'm off now to make remember that it is not a spoon.

My head hurts

Today went well. Up to a point. I had an interesting tutorial on biological Anthropology and discussed the possibility of my doing an MSc. This was good.

I half-sorted the next set of book orders for the library. This means that I worked out what they were but didn't actually send them off. This was good.

I then had a conversation with my Dad. We discussed a few business-type things. This was not good.

It left me feeling as though I hadn't had a cigarrette in far too long. So, I took the only course available to me and I got utterly smashed. By 7pm I'd drunk a bottle of Tequila, which the very nice rep had given us for free and I've just woken up from the floor at 11:30pm. I'm pretty much sober but I've got a bit of a hang-over. I'm not entirely convinced that normal people sober up that quickly. OK, so it's been 4 hours but it was a pretty much full bottle. Does that kind of thing happen to other people.

Anyway. I need a large glass of water and 6 hours sleep. And a couple of Panadol wouldn't go astray either, come to think of it.

Today is the first day of the rest of my life

Today was an easy going day. I woke early (I always do after drinking too much) and decided to read a book. Yesterday I read a book called 'The Chantry Guild' by Gordon R Dickson. It said that it was the prequel to the 'Dorsai' trilogy. So it was that at 7.30 I started reading the first book of the trilogy. 12 hours later I finished the third, with only a short gap to welcome some visitors and to write the library procedures manual for the new computer system. They're really very good. I'm going to try to find some more of these books.

The down-side to this is that I forgot to eat today but I'll survive. I had a couple of packets of crisps in the bar.

Which brings me on to "Mr Cuth's". This is an annual event in which the drunkest or most egotistical male members of St Cuthbert's Society make a fool of themselves in order to win the slightly coveted title of Mr Cuth's and a place in the Mr Durham competition. I have the utmost respect for these lads for making such unutterable arses of themselves in public.

That's all for now - time to catch some shut eye.

Holidays

I'm back from France - at least for the time being.
I succeeded in getting moderately sunburnt and in being moderately badly behaved. But not badly enough behaved not to be invited back again on the 20th of August. A 21st Birthday party. A big one.
I'd have to fly back there (hopefully off a guy with a spare ticket for £130).
It's nice to be back though. Holidays are great but I always feel as though I could do with a rest when I get back. Which I'm having at the moment. Me and my brother are staying at home and playing Command & Conquer - Red Alert a lot. A life of leisure. Wonderful.

Holiday

In 1 week I'm going on holiday to France - near Nice I believe. I survived the scary business of ordering an airline ticket. And soon I'll be off to stay with a friend of mine in the warmth of the South of France.
This is where the first problem occurs. Warmth = Summer clothes. I haven't worn shorts in more years than I care to think (which since I'm not that old is a slightly bizarre thing to say) and so I have had to go out and buy an entire wardrobe of T-shirts and shorts etc. Secondly, upon trying on these Summer clothes I have discovered that my skin is about the same colour as dead chicken skin. This is not a pleasant sight. It also means that I will need to wear *lots* of sun cream.
Ah well, the trials and tribulations of going on Holiday. I expect there's an entry somewhere around here about it. If not I may just have to come up with something...
