After 2 1/2 hours sleep last night I elt like shite this morning. I'd just sat in front of the computer until about 5:30 then read a book until 7:30. At 10:30 I *had* to get out of bed in order to go to a tutorial. I felt like pooh.
The first tutorial wasn't very interesting. I dozed off 2 or 3 times, which is quite an achievement in a tutorial class of 5 (including the tutor). The second tutorial was *far* better. I actually look forward to my Philosophy of Religion tutorials. They're brilliant. Today we discussed petitionary prayer. It was really very interesting. Actually I might even be tempted to write an entry on the subject. Hmmm. The only down-side to the tutorial was that one of the girls in the class had broken her arm so needed someone to write her notes for her. Since I didn't have a pad of paper wit me I got asked to. I *really* *hate* notes. I don't believe in them. If you write notes then you aren't (9 times out of 10) actually listening or understanding. As someone (can't remember who) once said, "Lectures are the fastest way for notes to get from the lecturer's page to the students' page without passing through the mind of either." However I survived the note-taking and really enjoyed the tutorial.
At about 6ish this evening I was a camera-man again. We did a version of 'Through The Keyhole' in rooms around Cuth's. It was a great laugh and really quite enjoyable.
In the evening there was Jizm Wrestling in the bar (well actually in the pool room but anyway). This consisted of a large ring made of mattresses and benches with a tarpaulin cover and a liberal dash of shampoo to make it all slippery. This was lots of fun. I was forced to wrestle by a very nice young girl called Liza, who's a fresher. Now stop that. I can see your mind working there, it's not sexual, all competitors were (mostly) fully clothed and it was done 'in the best pawsible tayste'.
All round really rather a good day. Tomorrow I have to get up quite early to buy a birthday present for Jane, whose 25th birthday it is. I really wanted a lie-in too. Oh well, plenty of time to sleep when I'm dead.

Blind Date
Posted Feb 2, 2000
Tonight we had blind date in the bar. I was the camera-man and apart from having to hold up a camcorder for 40 minutes (which doesn't sound like much but it bloody hurts your arms), was fun. All the contestants were ripped to shreds by the compére.
I have 2 contiguous tutorials tomorrow and so I need to get to bed early.
Whaddayamean? 3am is early.

Party
Posted Feb 1, 2000
A day of distinctly different parts. At 7pm today I had to tidy a room that belonged to a guy from my Society who died in a car-crash over the week-end. This was a very wierd experience. All his stuff was just as he'd left it before leaving for the week-end. His dirty socks were in one corner, his shirts over the back of his chair and his beaten-up straw hat-thing on his table. It was as if he was just about to come back. Very wierd. It gave me horrible feelings of what it would be like to have had to have tidied my brother's room if he hadn't survived his accident 18 months ago. Not nice at all.
Then I worked the bar for a party that we ran in the Society for DUCK week (like RAG week but called DUCK). It didn't work out that well. The party started at 8pm. Between 8pm and 10pm, on average, there were 2 people in the hall. Me and the DJ. I sold 6 drinks in the first 2 hours. People started arriving at 10pm and the place improved. Afterwards though, the DUCK reps were supposed to tidy up. Did they? No. Not a single one turned up. It ended up with me and a couple of others having to tidy the whole place up and put all the tables back.
It's 2:55 and I'm all wide awake. Damn. And I'm hungry. Double damn. Time to bed down in the library I think.

Quake

Today, I overslept. I woke up at 3pm. I missed a meeting. I am a very bad person.
After this bad start, I tried to make up for my bad behaviour by helping put down a new floor in the room that will be the Society's gym. This went well. We had a nail gun (how cool are they). We shot stuff with the nail gun. At University we are, allegedly, in the upper percentages, intelligigence-wise, in the country. And there we were shooting stuff with a nail gun and laughing our arses off. Hmmm... Aren't we grown-up. But then again who wants to be grown-up. I read a very interesting article in (I think) the Independent on Sunday Magazine about how the 2nd World War caused us all not to want to grow up.
In the evening I helped out with the Battle of the Sexes quiz in the bar. And after hours we watched american Pie on the big screen.
And now I'm off for a bath.
