i've been thinking ... mibbi llyods isnae the best place to meet on a friday night - it's really jumping on a friday night with all the suits coming out of their offices - even though it's good friday, i reckon it'll still be heaving (end of the month too, folk'll just been paid)
how about our usual haunt - the printworks, just off george square? ... or griffen? or the library? (down sauchiehall street) or the state bar, somewhere like that.

Oh, I remember the Printworks - wasn't that were the first Glasgow meet was?
My vote is definitely for 'quiet', and always has been. It has been so long since I saw you, darlin', not to mention Zagreb and liquidindian, that I want to be able to *hear* what you are saying.
With Z and me there, there's no chance of awkward silences.
There is another approach, you know. Z and I meet up with you on the afternoon, we find somewhere that suits - where we've got a table, for a start! - and I text Edward the Bonobo, and you text Zagreb and he texts liquidindian.
It would make me feel like part of an underground movement, even if it is a bit 2003.

That could work.
The State would get my vote 'cos it's got good beer. Just off Sauchiehall St. (Pitt St?). But doesn't it also get busy? The Griffinette can be nice too. Also handy for a bite from the 'interesting' Chinese noodle place on S'hall St.
If we're going for a random place, I'd really, really like to be convenient for Central - to maximise my drinking - er - conversation time.
I don't reckon the Suits problem will really apply, though, on Good Friday.
(Jaysus - It's a good job we don't work as entertainments directors at a brewery)

Well, Z and I will need to leg it to an underground station at the end of the night, so I think we do all need it to be fairly central.
I'm not worried about the quality of the but appreciate that others might be.
Noodles sound good. I'll be eating beermats by 9.00 if we don't do *something* about food, but I am easy and will happily go for pub food if the pub does food.

Look - let's keep it simple. Try Lloyds. If that's stowed out, there's a decent tiddly-Irish place nearby on St. Vincent St. Then there's the Cask and Still, Bar Ha Ha, All Bar One, The Maltman, The Horseshoe...all within spitting distance. Also - all convenient for Wagamama, The Mussel Inn, Pizza Express and various others.
(OK - so none of these are very authentic, but then the Vicky/Scotia/Clutha triangle isn't handy for the underground.)
Where's the hotel, anyway?

Mrs Zen Posted Mar 23, 2005
Southside. Near the Ibrox, in fact.
I trust Weegie when she says that Lloyds may be hotching, and I'd rather not trail round Glasgow from pub to pub looking for a quiet one, and being polite and democratic to each other while we try them out. I'd rather be catching up with my pals. Having spent my fare share of Fridays shouting into folks ears because that is the only way to have a conversation, I don't want to do it when it's the only chance I get in a year or so to see folks.
Given that Z and Weegie and I will be together from about 4.00pm, why don't we text you about 6.30 and let you know where we are? We can take beer and food into account, though I would rather eat where we drink, to be honest. Unless it is a *really* cheap noodle bar.
But places like All Bar One and the Horseshoe are designed for a different kind of night out. Don't get me wrong, I *like* those kinds of nights out, but not when I want to hear the gossip, share the news, and debate the politics.
Is the small Irish place also cheap? Cheap is good, and I'm not fussy.
Actually, yes I *am* fussy.
I don't like productised places, with plasticised menus and plasticised beer and food, and a brand name to promote through their productised, placticised, branded staff. Hence not being a fan of All Bar One or Weatherspoons or any of the others like that.
I do trust Weegie's judgement on pubs, having spent enough time in enough of them with her way back when...
I like small, dark, quiet, and maybe a bit more rough and ready.

Actually - the All Bar One isn't that bad. The Irish pub is called Failte and is @ 79 St Vincent St (just east of Renfield St). Other options in the city centre: http://www.myglasgow.org/glasgow/bars&music-list-bars-and-pubs.htm
Anyway - the texting plan seems reasonable. Your call. I'll wear a red carnation and carry a copy of the Daily Telegraph.
The hotel must be the Swallow on Paisley Rd West. Hmmm. (By the way - it will be less than a fiver by Joe Baxi from the city centre to there).
Oh Why is life so COMPLICATED!

there's also a 24 hour bus service along the PRW (the number 56 if embdy's interested)
we'll find somewhere and buckle in and text everybody.

I wonder how they do textspeak in Czech? Maybe they have to miss out all the consonants.
Remind me to tell my famous envelope joke tomorrow. It's the sort of thing that would go down well with the daughter of a cleric.

*waves to all*
Good to see you all on Friday. Z and I had a time in Skye, and everything is now back to normal. But it really was good to see all of you.

Mutual.
You're a bunch of lightweight amateurs, though. I haven't had so little to drink of a Friday night for many a year!
Key: Complain about this post
