Loved the Mardy article which i've just discovered - do you know the word Leary? Used in the context of being Leary, or in a leary mood, meaning sarcastic, direspectful or snide - rather than the accepted "being leary of" use meaning cautious.
Leary and mardy always seem to have a similar local origin to me.

I know it only in the context of a bit afraid of something? It would be so much better if it does mean similar to mardy. A bit sharper than mardy, though, I think, from your description; what's underneath a mardy surface, when the person being mardy realises it gets them nowhere. If your tantrum doesn't work, use sarcasm.
I am not sure how to amend entries actually, but if I can find out I will put a mention in there.
What is the locality of Leary?
