that's a then?
sorry Doctor...
I meant to convey my intention to attend your convention (whups... gone all G&S...) in my original post. For sure I would love to both attend and ramble on the subject.
Not frivolous at all! in dire seriousness, rather... still, that gives you plenty of time to decide the vital questions of fabric and colour.

Magic Its just my job in this event to get paranoid and annoy people. You should see what the rest of the committee have to put up with.

would that be a spectacular Verne-esque airship oozing steam and making a 'wheesht' noise, with brass portholes?
I have only seen them in pictures. Mostly drawn by me.

I will post the thingie off fortwith... or presently, or something.
What exactly would you prefer me to go on about? Reckon I could ditch most of the pre-Victorian information... does not have to be strictly what's in the article, o'course (which originally had a word limit).

Knew I had something to reply to
Anyhoo, the con will have a pseudo-Victorian air, but we are quite happy to cover SF from Frankenstein to Prof. Challenger and everything inbetween. So you can basically talk about anything, but if it vaguely fits the period of the nineteenth century then all the better. We quite like the idea of having the ladies retire after dinner (while we set up the ceilidh) and then having you discuss undergarments, while there are no men present. Of course I doubt things will work like that, as there are bound to be some guys who would rather hear about and see some corsets and things.

doesn't matter- conveniently, my computer has been down for a while.
I will not take it as license to ramble; probably since folk are most familiar with the 19th century corset it will be the main item, but I have this grand idea of bringing an obliging model to show evolution of the design etc. and pointing at her like a weathergirl. I would not wish to deprive the gentlemen of their fun, they are welcome.
(just a'checkin'... if I booked for 'special membership' I would have only to pay some at the moment? I prefer installments. Preferably no installments, of £0.00, but that is not on the cards.)
also- I have been attempting to shove the website at the sort of folk who run webrings and linx pages etc. Are all the pictures working now or are there still mysterious disappearances?
thankyou.

Munchkin is going to have a bit of trouble logging on for a couple of weeks, but have pointed Jamie (another researcher invlolved with the convention) in this direction, I hope he can help re membership.
I shall have a look at the site at lunchtime, and let you know how it is working.

Well the website seems alot faster, and all of the garment pictures load now, as do most of the fabrics.
Most of the brocades still don't show, and the irridecent organza doesn't load at all
I shall definately be ordering after Easter (when I have stopped giving up shopping for lent)
I am amazed at the value, I would be hard pushed to buy the fabric for these prices! so I am happy to be lazy and have you guy's make them up
The grisette skirt and evil doctors blouse, look suitably Edwardian as well. My only concern is that I am trying to lose weight, so if I buy too much now, it won't fit (hopefully) in 2004!

Well, I asked my prospective model, "You want to come to Glasgow in 2004 with me?", she replied, "....yeah!" so it's a definite.
Thankyou very much. I don't want to seem demanding but I am very grateful for any feedback.
(also I am not trying to force you to order, either. That is entirely your decision. ) Your shoppingless spree is going well, then?
...there aren't any pictures for the iridescent organza. There are meant to be, but I haven't even written any boxes for them yet, so only the titles show up. (although it's not really as interesting as it sounds.) Thanks for pointing that out tho, it will be altered very soon...
Because I shop mainly for me I get the cheapest fabrics. Not that they are lesser-quality, but where one shop has it for £5. and another for only £2, no contest. Either that or wait until they are desperate to be rid of it.
The skirt can be elasticated, so would be ok even if you did shrink drastically.

Cool, a Live model will work wonders!
I don't mind buying from you at all, I have made a couple of corsets and have found the metal work very expensive, and that was only off a roll, not proper spiral stays. By the time I got patterns, fabric, cotton and all the odds and ends, a skirt and blouse would be painful!
(mind you I am in deapest darkest Surrey at the moment, where every thing is expensive)
Would the blouse tuck into the waist band ok?
The shopping thing not too bad, not bought any cd's, dvd's, books or misc. stuff for ages now! I shall probably make up for it after Easter though

I used to get flat steel (crinoline-type) from a demented-old-woman haberdashery place (you know the sort, they live in caves of wool and eat cotton); it was £1.20 a metre. Ugh.
The blouse could work either way, depending on how long you want it-the one I have has a tie-back at the waist so it would be worn over the skirt, however it could tuck in or extend down below the waist to cover the skirt band.
Is your Lenten frugality for religious reasons, or merely a response to Gnomonic threats?

Jamie Posted Mar 31, 2003
Flat steel? I know corsets are meant to be restrictive, but that seems a little extreme.
Anyway, con money type stuff. All the details are at http://www.convivial.org.uk/ but I'll summarise; full membership is currently £25, going up to £30 after Eastercon which is *checks* eeek, in three weeks time. Hotel rooms will probably be about £50-60 a night, although they don't know what the exact rates will be yet. There are other cheaper hotels (the Ibis for example) round Glasgow - we have a pretty good choice nowadays.
Supporting memberships are £10 - this means you can turn up on the day and pay the balance, and not the on-the-door rate.
We are also thinking of having a formal dinner type thing, at which Munchkin shall harrumph for the Empire. £5 deposit guarantees your place.
Right, I'm orf 'ome. Toodle pip

Hello Munchkin replacement...
I'll be looking for the cheapest hotel of all, in that case. I don't suppose you know of any campsites...?
Since at the moment my funds are £0.00 I am trying to do everything for nowt. I hope they will have increased by next year, at least to the extent that I won't have to hitchhike. Even so, I'll still be a skinflint.
I will post the gubbins off soon (before Easter, definately.)

I only thought about it yesterday! although I am making up a dress and jacket for this Easter thingy - Gotta have a few changes of clothes come Convivial!
The lack of shopping is all due to Gnomen, mainly to prove that I can. However, I may end up buying costume stuff in London at the weekend (my last chance before Eastercon) :o(

I think specific shopping is allowed....Honest I do..
You are just not allowed to spend 200 squid on DVDs in one go..

(arrghg... Zantic/Xanatic confusion! )
...That'd add to my proud DVD collection of one.
Do you have to live on packet mix and dust, or does Gnomon allow you to get fresh provisions?

Even I'm slightly more of an optimist than Xanatic thanks..
You'll never have seen the inside of Toc's freezer then..theres enough there to feed the five thousand...and probably more if needs be..
