Right, on the old computer lets hope it recognises it as a new removable drive.
What you do is plug it into the usb port, go to my computer and it should show your stick as a removable storage device. Then find your database file and drag it to that drive and drop it.
Once that’s done. Just double click the removable drive to make sure it saved ok, and then shut the device down by clicking the little icon in the system tray (where you see the clock), remove it and move to your new computer.
Plug it into the usb port on there, and click my computer again, and then double click the removable storage device icon. When it opens just drag your database to wherever you want to store it

right i can see the memory stick where it should be but how do i get the file into it ? i am in my computer so when i go to my docs it obviously covers the my computer screen up so i cant see the drive
am i being thick ?

No you're not thick...
Right, in the taskbar at the bottom of the screen it shows what windows are open. All you do is make one of the windows smaller by clicking the second button in from the top right hand corner (which will shrink the window down), then drag the file across to the window that is visable underneath

Right hold on a min:
You've taken the database from your old computer, put it onto the stick, and now you've moved it to the new computer dragged it off to a location on the new pc is that right?

Right if you update the database on your new computer now it'll be ok, but if you want it on the other computer as well, you'll have to go through the same process in reverse - if that makes sense, and I'm not being funny either honest, although for the batabase to work you must have the same software installed on both computers. I don't know what you're using, but say your database was created in Microsoft Access, then you need Microsoft Access installed on both computers or you won't be able to open the database you just moved.

and if i update it on this computer then plug the memory stick in will it just update auto or have i got to tell it to ?
LBP's Geek Thread!
Adrian-67 Posted Aug 25, 2006
No it won't update it automatically you have to do that manually. What you have to do is this.
Say you update the database on your new computer, you will then have to copy that (updated) file to your stick again, and then go to your old pc, delete your old database file and replace it with the updated one on your stick - did that make sense
