It varies hugely. The only compulsory subjects are English, English Literature, Maths and one modern language (I think you have to do at least two sciences as well, but I'm not certain). People usually do other subjects above and beyond the aforementioned to bolster the total number of subjects taken up to 9, 10, or 11 (I'm doing 10 subjects in total).
